It is found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, and Vietnam. Its natural

montane forest. The former Taiwan subspecies musicus is usually now considered a distinct species as the Taiwan scimitar babbler
.

It forms mixed flocks with other species.[2]
