Political career
Chief Minister of Melaka (2020–2023)
Attempt to overthrow him and 2021 Melaka state election
On 4 October 2021, former Chief Minister of Melaka and Sungai Udang MLA
2021 Melaka state election on 20 November 2021. In the election, Barisan Nasional (BN) gained a landslide victory and two-thirds majority in the asssmbly by winning 21 out of 28 state seats, he remained as chief minister in the new government. The next day, Sulaiman was sworn in as chief minister.[4]
Resignation
On 29 March 2023,
Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Melaka and informed him of his intention to resign as the Chief Minister of Melaka. On 30 March 2023, Ahmad Zahid nominated Ab Rauf Yusoh, the State Chairman of BN of Melaka and MLA for Tanjung Bidara as his replacement. On 31 March 2023, Ab Rauf was sworn in and appointed as the new and 13th Chief Minister.[5]

He is married to Munira M Yusop and has 3 children.[2][3]
