Damage?

If only one hurricane caused significant damage, which was bob that caused $1.5 B in damages, how can the total damages be $2.8 B? Does the infobox incorrectly include damages from the Nor'easter? — jdorje (talk) 06:09, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would guess the box included the nor'easter, which was technically a hurricane at some point. It is iffy what should be included, but one example supports using it. In 2005's infobox, it includes 1 death from Hurricane Maria, a death that did not occur until it became extratropical. They agreed there that extratropical stuff would be included if it was major, so I would guess the same applies here. After all, some of the beach erosion could have occurred when the storm was subtropical or a hurricane. Because it is impossible to differentiate, I say it should stay. However, after all of this, the total is, in fact, incorrect. It is the sum of Bob ($1.5 billion 1991 USD) and the Perfect Storm ($1.3 billion 2005 USD). I'll fix it to make it in 1991 and 2005 USD's. Hurricanehink 14:36, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The 2005 death was from Maria's remnants. The Nor'easter was the origin of a hurricane but the hurricane had nothing whatsoever to do with any damage or deaths. — jdorje (talk) 19:27, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
True, but how do you know that the hurricane that formed did not cause any damage? Yes, that entire system caused the damage, but the hurricane could have contributed to the coastal beach erosion. Here's sort of an example I have. For Hurricane Gordon, it caused around 20 deaths in Guatemala as a precursor system. The whole system caused the deaths, but because it became Gordon they are attributed to Gordon's death toll. Hurricanehink 19:44, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Depressions

I finished 5 & 10-i had to alter the button bar to their correct positions. Now while i was working on it i was thinking maybe we should only talk about up to 4 depressions a season?I'm bringing this up because i am looking for info on TD7-13 for '87.

I think all known TD's should be mention. Be careful on your wording. On TD10, for example, you say the storm formed with a weak circulation on the 23rd, and was named on the 24th. When a tropical depression forms, it is when it becomes a depression, not when it has a weak circulation. Someone should give a good copyedit to what you recently wrote, as it is low-quality writing. Hurricane Eight

I don't mean to be too crtical, but the title of the storm summary for Hurricane Eight is 1991 Halloween Nor'easter, while the infobox for it is titled Hurricane Eight. The Nor'easter wasn't part of the hurricane season, but the Hurricane Eight was. It should be retitled Hurricane Eight. Also, the storm summary seems to be too much about the Nor'easter rather than the actual hurricane. HurricanesTyphoonsCyclones 21:22, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see what your thinking. The 1991 Perfect Storm article seems to be about the same storm just with a little more details, such as impact, fatalities, and damage. Nope, I didn't say that; the Perfect Storm was the nor'easter that preceded the unnamed hurricane, so they're different storms. The infobox picture in the nor'easter article needs to be replaced. –Juliancolton | Talk 05:08, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • "Erika began a motion to the north and northeast." - I am not seeing any northerly motion. All I see is a northeastward direction.
