Has anyone else noticed that this article is full of minor news items, many of which could hardly be considered historically important, which is the basis for this article? DerbyCountyinNZ ^{(Talk Contribs)} 01:41, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Certainly all the "figures reveal" items could go, and that story about Ashley Cole, which really is minor news. There is a guy who had a phase of adding opinion polls which I kept removing, but that seems to have stopped. I'm probably guilty of adding one or two minor events myself, but I do try to pick the stuff I feel gets major coverage. I guess it's a matter of opinion on what each individual regards as major news. Do you have any suggestions as to what other items we could remove?

• RPI figure rose to 5.1% from 4.8%.^[2]
• 27 February - It is reported that Chelsea footballer Ashley Cole
  accidentally shot a 21-year-old man with an air rifle.
