Crustal shortening and extension

I have added a "Dubious – discuss" tag to the following text in the Introduction section of this article: "Since its creation the crust has been shortened through various processes, including post-orogenic collapse and crustal extension." I do not have access to the source reference that has been cited to support this text but it seems counter-intuitive that post-orogenic collapse and crustal extension, which are both extensional processes, would cause crustal shortening. I think this sentence of the article should be clarified/changed. Is the shortening perhaps referring to something like "toe thrusts" in passive margins? My bad, that should be "the crust has been thinned through various processes," not shortened. My brain must have short-circuited while writing that. I'll also find a more publicly available source to back it up
