The Rose of Allendale

I suppose that this is the Allendale mentioned in the song. Am I right ? -- Derek Ross | Talk 03:03, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, 'The Rose of Allandale', a Scottish folk song, probably refers to a ship, and it does not refer to Allendale Town. There is, after all, a small but salient clue in the spelling. The wiki page for the song states it is Allendale, Northumberland. However, there is a town called Allandale in Falkirk, Scotland. Considering the song's writer also wrote a song called "Mary of Argyle", it might be reasonable to assume it is about a girl. However, I'd suggest it is also pretty certain that it is not an irish song, despite the list of Irish artists mentioned on the main page. he writer was English.
