Chris Watts crimes were abhorrent. Despite this, there are Facebook groups that dissect his wifes personality and behaviour looking for answers "to stop this happening to another woman". Monetized You Tube account creators state that they are 'only a discussion group interested in the case'. However the content is focused on negative analysis of the victim in an effort to 'understand' the motive and reason for the crimes. These attitudes are actually a form of self protection. "This won't happen to me if I'm not bossy/ a nag" etc. But victims are not responsible for an attack. The opinion that they are is damaging to survivors of violence and to the families of murder victims. The behaviour that should be dissected is that of trolls. "Trolls score high on cognitive empathy. intellectually, they understand other people’s emotions, which means that they know how to make them suffer. But they score low on affective empathy.
