She is the first artist to ever have a single feautured on the new Itunes/Bebo "Free single of the week" program starting on June 23rd, 2007. A new page for Amy Macdonald will be eventually added, this template will help start that page, specially for users who are not signed up to wikipedia but would like to add to the page.

I notice the release date of This Is The Life is 30th July 2007, but the complete album is available on iTunes (Release Date: 23 July 2007), and doesn't appear to be related to "Free single of the week". I don't know the reason for this. --84.92.62.165 10:41, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]


You have to be a bebo member in the UK for that single. And albums are often released first on iTunes before their physical release.

Amy's "This is life" made it to the first place in the Poland's most recognised music chart Lista Przebojow Programu Trzeciego (held weekly for last 26 years). Singles chart positions

Is the cited reference only, as advertised. for US and Canadian positions? What is the distinction between DU for Dutch and NL for Netherlands? And what happend to FR for France? Martinevans123 (talk) 20:59, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed it (it's now commented out if anyone wants to do some forensics); it seemed to be only for the US and Canada. Moreover, it seemed to be for Rihanna, not Amy Macdonald.

It's spelled "Macdonald" everywhere in all the sources we use in the article - so there is no reason to move anything. It's apparently correct or if not true it is at least verifiable and we value that more than truth (see

The correct way to capitalise the name is MacDonald. The way she chooses to capitalise it is irrelevant. Just as for trademarks that are stylised with lower case letters, as a name they are still capitalised in wikipedia. I would suggest moving the article and correcting the name usage. Perhaps you should discuss this first with Lord Macdonald, High Chief of Clan Donald. The way she chooses to capitalise it is completely relevant. Wikipedia is here to report reality, not define it. Fair enough. Though I have never seen it capitalised that way before... If it is a correct alternative usage (as it appears to be), then that is fine, however, if that was just the way she decided she wanted to write it for stylistic reasons, whereas her actual name was capitalised, then we would have to use the correct capitalisation. It isn't a matter of how to capitalise "the name". Different spellings (and that includes different capitalisations of the same sequence of letters) are essentially different names that are the names of different people. Some people are called Stewart, others Stuart. Some people are called John, others Jon. The same applies to surnames – Clark/Clarke, Davis/Davies, Dickson/Dixon, McDonald/MacDonald/Macdonald. So it's probably just the case that the name of her family is Macdonald.
It may also be the case that somebody has adopted an alternative spelling as a pen name, stage name, etc. In this case, we would honour this, just as we would honour any other pen name or stage name. — Smjg (talk) 17:39, 23 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Chart positions

There's been some controversy recently about chart positions, with some editors apparently unhappy with the claimed (and cited) positions. These have frequently been changed, without any matching change being made to the

cited references
. This is problematic as it means that readers checking the citations will see something completely different.

Can I remind editors that Wikipedia has specific policies that cover this - namely

? If you know that the listed chart position is wrong then you must be able to prove it, i.e. you must be able to cite a reference that supports your revised claim. Uncited claims are liable to tagged as needing a citation ({{fact}}) or even deleted; claims that differ from the cited reference are liable to be changed back to match the reference.

Formal warning and different comment on sources

Amy MacDonald, or anybody representing Amy MacDonald, should be very familiar with Wikipedia rules to avoid conflict of interest

Now, the second quotation I check, I find the citation does not confirm the claim that Elton John is a fan of her work. In fact, it doesn't even mention him. I'm giving a formal warning, that this kind of activity will very shortly cause this article to receive protection from anonymous editing.

I have reverted the photo on this article again. I note that this photo, compared to the one replacing it is;

  • better lit
  • in focus
  • closer to the subject
  • doesn't have a microphone obscuring half her face
  • more recent

Accent

The current text says "her singing voice is described as partly Irish and similar to Dolores O'Riordan of The Cranberries by those who have a poor understanding of Scottish accents." The reference which apparently supports this simply does not mention her accent or Dolores O'Riordan. Unless anybody objects I will remove this text and the reference. From the reference: "... her voice often compared to The Cranberries’ lead singer, Dolores O’Riordan ... some of her broad Irish accent seems to have rubbed off on Macdonald. For someone who says she loves Glasgow ... it is hard to tell where Macdonald is actually from ...". personal life

i'm not sure why the section about her cars were removed. i came to this page specifically because i saw her on top gear.


specifically this whole section:

MacDonald is a fan of cars. Her current collection consists of a

Kia Cee'd to a time of 1:44.4. This was the fastest lap time recorded for a female star at that time.[3]

It was removed because its sources were a online forum, which isn't a
reliable source and an iPlayer listing that won't be there after this month, and isn't accessible outside the UK. The mention of her lap time was also cited to the table that didn't actually include Macdonald at the time. I see that's there now, so I've re-added that bit.
