Links to ja.wikipedia

An editor has recently contested the inclusion of Interlanguage links to this page. The resulting conversation can be found here. Since it's just a disagreement between two editors at this point, I'd like to see if we can find some consensus on this issue. Essentially the question is this:

  • Is it acceptable to include interlanguage links to ja.wikipedia articles on closely related topics in a "See also" section of an en.wikipedia article?

If anybody who is a non-involved third party could comment one way or the other then that would be very helpful. Cheers -Thibbs (talk) 23:25, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • RfC comment. I'm completely non-involved, and I came here from the RfC notice. I think the simplest way to answer this question is to look at the applicable guidelines for articles in general, and to see how they might apply to this page. Looking at
WP:LAY#External links, it seems to make best sense to put the ja.wikipedia links in the "External links" section, instead. I think it would be fine to put them there. I hope that helps. --Tryptofish (talk) 20:41, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply

Hmm, I tend to think of Interlanguage links as internal wikilinks.

WP:LINKS makes that much clear. In looking into this more I find that perhaps the closest comparison can be made to non-language Wikimedia sister projects like wiktionary (which also allows non-url links). In examining WP:Wikimedia sister projects I find similar language to WP:LAY: "In normal lists and articles, if there is no directly relevant section in the page, then the links are usually placed in the external links section. ... Sister links are not normally included in See also sections, which are reserved for links to pages within the English Wikipedia." So I still see little direct guidance on the point at hand but more policy than not seems to favor your recommendation, Tryptofish. I'll inform the other editor and you can remove the RfC tag whenever you wish or I'll remove it if there is no further discussion. Thanks for your excellent help here. -Thibbs (talk) 13:21, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply

Glad to help. I'll leave it to editors here, when to remove the tag. --Tryptofish (talk) 16:25, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
