The lyrics are:

Which came first, the song or the sample?

A bit of uncertainty here - the wording of the article, saying that "Bittersweet Symphony" was "based on music from an Andrew Loog Oldham adaptation of a Rolling Stones song, 'The Last Time,'" implies that the sample came first and the song was constructed around it. But I've always believed that the song was recorded, mixed and considered finished BEFORE producer Youth listened through it, said he felt it needed something extra and suggested adding the string sample.

Songwriting Credits

The article as it currently stands (15 October 2011) claims that the credited songwriters are Jagger and Richards. But other sources, such as this,http://www.scribd.com/doc/60317315/Bittersweet-Symphony claim that the credits are to Ashcroft, Jagger and Richards. This makes more sense, as it is not disputed that the lyrics are by Ashcroft. So can anyone find an authoritative source (by which I don't mean press articles or interviews) and give the correct position?109.157.227.44 (talk) 17:35, 15 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Allmusic lists (Keith Richards / Mick Jagger / Richard Ashcroft), and I think that since that site is a guide and not a periodical, that should work.

Number of notes in the Verve's sample from Andrew Oldham Orchestra's version of "The Last Time"?

Now, the Credits dispute section says the number of notes in the Verve's sample from Andrew Oldham Orchestra's version of "The Last Time" is five. In fact, the sample in "Bittersweet Symphony" contains 13 notes (count 'em). Other sources state that one of Klein's objections was that the Verve had used more notes than they had a licence for. OK. I listened again to Andrew Oldham Orchestra's version. Its riff contains five notes. The Verve added the other eight notes, as its members complained in the dispute. The guitar riff in the Rolling Stones' "The Last Time" contains 10 notes. All three riffs share the same general form with that of The Staple Singers' "This May be the Last Time", as implied in the article. Massive Attack

In the part about the music video, I added that Massive Attack members follow the singer in the Unfinished Sympathy video. @Popcornfud reverted it, saying: That isn't mentioned in the provided source, and it doesn't seem important for the point being made here.

It is important because the video for the song that is the subject of this article also shows the singer followed by other band members.
