1983

The Muslim Brotherhood uprising in Syria began in 1979, attacks by other Islamist groups on the government began in 1976. The uprising was practically defeated by 1983. It's likely there was some CIA involvement with the uprising, but not in response to the Syrian-Soviet treaty.
