Where did he serve in WWII?

The article currently[1] includes the following line:

He resigned in March 1942 to join the United States Army and served with distinction in New Guinea as a guerrilla fighter during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't tell from this whether he served on New Guinea, the Philippines, or both. 76.106.149.108 (talk) 18:58, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
