2005 post

Located at the junction of Interstate 90 and Interstate 39, the Village is situated on the South East side of the Rockford, Illinois metropolitan area. Portions of Cherry Valley share a zip code with the City of Rockford.

The Village of Cherry Valley is a small community which contains some of the region's largest, most identifiable attractions. The Village is home to "CherryVale Mall" which is the regional shopping mall for North West Illinois. It contains over 1,000,000 square feet of space and is anchored by four department stores (Bergner's, Sears, JC Penney and Marshal Fields (soon to be Macy's).

Other notable Cherry Valley sites include "Magic Waters" water amusement park. This attraction is Illinois' largest publicly owned water amusement park. Owned and operated by the Rockford Park District, this facility is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, drawing over a quarter of a million visitors annually.

Cherry Valley is also home to the World's Oldest Harley Davidson dealership; Kegel Motorcycle Company which boasts a large show room of motorcycles and accessories, as well as a diner. Kegel's is home to numerous motorcycle events through out the year.

Vehicle sticker issue

Vehicle sticker checks by Rockford police and how it affects Cherry valley residents is (or was) a real issue. Its relevancy for the Wikipedia article can be debated here. It is a timely issue since Rockford only very recently decided to rescind the vehicle sticker altogether startign in 2008.Rockford1963 22:42, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Police stops for Vehicle sticker enforcement have rarely if ever happened in this community. And even if they had, it is hardly noteworthy enough to add to this article.

Vehicle sticker enforcment would never have happened inside Cherry Valley, but would have been in adjacent areas under the control of Rockford Police. Cherry valley residents, in an attempt to get back to Cherry Valley, where no vehicle sticker is required, would at times have to be wait in line and then have to explain why they didn't need a sticker, maybe even produce their vehicle registration to prove it. Maybe this hasn't been an issue recetnly, but has been one in the past. This information may be worthy to be put back in the article.Rockford1963 14:25, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly guys, who cares about this. Do you think that someone in Florida or someone over in Europe who reads about Rockford or Cherry Valley for that matter really cares if there is a vehicle sticker problem? I live just south of both places and I really don't care to read about that in an encyclopedia. If you are wondering what should or shouldn't be included, I will refer you to both Springfield, Illinois which is a GA city, and Detroit which is a FA city.--Kranar drogin 21:40, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Rankings and guidelines aside, it depends on your idea of what of Wikipedia should be. If it is stirclty a formal encyclopedia following a traditional format of limited bits of only the most vital information then I suppose you are correct, leave the information out. Others see Wikipedia also in terms of something different, sort of a 'palace of all information', regardless of how obscure. I tend towards the later but realize that there are definite instances when such information detracts from an article. I will defer and not press the topic.

Schools

Information about the Cherry Valley elemnatary school should remain, as the school is the only one inside the old corp downtown area, and is identified with an independent Cherry Valley.Rockford1963 22:42, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Village settle date / incorporation date

The listed dates, as taken from CherryValley history.org do seem to contradict other sources. Which dates are correct?Rockford1963 17:34, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Commercial detail

The amount of detail that some editors seem intent on including in here is simply non-encyclopedic. Imagine what the articles on Chicago or New York would look like if as many businesses were listed in their articles as are currently[2] listed here. Additionally, all the talk about expansion plans and the like, that can be mentioned, but per

WP:WEIGHT, you need to have some perspective here. I've trimmed out some stuff, but far less than needs to be trimmed out, and if someone puts it back in, they need to not only make sure that it's sourced, but that its sufficiently important to be included. As I said earlier, this is not a Chamber of Commerce flyer, it's an encyclopedia. HuskyHuskie (talk) 08:28, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply

source needed

This section

As the city of Rockford grew and expanded its boundaries it came in direct contact with Cherry Valley. Since that time there have been land control related issues between the two municipalities. Ultimately these "issues" culminated in a boundary agreement between the two communities in 1991.[citation needed] The boundary agreement is scheduled to expire in August of 2011.

does, I agree, merit inclusion, assuming it is true. But it has been waiting for a source for four years. I've looked, but cannot find one. Can anybody help? HuskyHuskie (talk) 03:51, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Major employers

I think this section needs to go. It's not particularly distinctive of CV, and it's completely unsourced. Just isn't helpful or needed. Little more than weak boosterism. HuskyHuskie (talk) 03:53, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
