pronunciation?

Proper pronunciation of his name would enhance the article. 0-0-0-Destruct-0 21:41, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand IPA, but Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune said it's pronounced "Chew-eh-tell Edge-o-for."[1] --Pixelface (talk) 22:17, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
CHOO-ih-tell EDGE-ee-oh-for, but it's worth reading this BBC Magazine's How to say: Chiwetel Ejiofor (March 2008) as it highlights subtle differences, due to accents. 0zero9nine (talk) 13:05, 6 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Audio file of name?

Much like Adewale_Akinnuoye-Agbaje, an audio file of the correct pronunciation of his name would be greatly appreciated. --24.249.108.133 20:04, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article is badly in needed of cited sources. If you add something, please include the source. --Melty girl 08:36, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a source (interview with the Telegraph) that could be added somewhere: [2] Terraxos 02:54, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I added a bit at the end of his career section regarding the current Othello production. I'm new to editing, and I had some problems citing. Doctor who casting spec

It obviously shouldn't go in the article but people might want to keep an eye on this Christmas Day and beyond as he's been speculated as the Doctor. If he gets cast, the edits will be crazy.71.112.124.241 (talk) 07:12, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Him and about 300 other British actors/actresses are in the speculation blender, and I would be amazed if any of the names touted are actually cast...more likely than not it will be someone who slips under the radar. magnius (talk) 12:38, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
One of the more reliable spoiler sources at Gallifrey One is saying it's him. Of course, an equally reliable source is saying it's Joseph Patterson so who knows. But it's speculation more sourced than the usual banter...71.112.183.200 (talk) 03:43, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
At least we know the timing of the announcement now, but not who it will be: The BBC Press Release confirms the announcement will be in the "Doctor Who Confidential" programme broadcast on January 3rd, 2009 between 17:35 and 18:10 GMT. So it was neither of them in the end. All good fun though!!Blaine Coughlan (talk) 07:17, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DOB

When he received the OEB, his birthday was listed as 10 July 1974 but here it's listed as 10 July 1977. Has his age undergone the same procedure as Drew Barrymore's and Rachel McAdams', or is this just a typo?

I noticed that as well a while ago. I'd checked all possible public information including those at Ejiofor's secondary schools and colleges. All support his birth year as 1977. Example: Dulwich College's Alumni Profiles where he was educated between 1990 -- which would make him one of oldest kids in his first-year class as he was 13 (average age would be 12), due to the first school term in September, bearing in mind his birthday is in July -- and 1995 (he was 18). He was 19 when he was cast as James Covey in Amistad a year later. The film was released the following year in 1997. I couldn't find evidence that supports 1974, so it's probably a typo on the OEB's part. One could check his birth certificate or his home borough's electoral roll, but I don't have access to either. I'm banking on 1977, though, as there are enough public evidence to back that up. Cheers. 0zero9nine (talk) 12:52, 6 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Press Book for 12 Years a Slave states 1976 as YoB -- IP-Wesen (talk) 12:25, 14 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Education

IMO "dropped out" is both slangy and connotation-packed ("turn on, tune in, drop out"), and the connotation is hardly justified by the circumstances of leaving school in response to what was probably close to the opportunity of a lifetime, a lead role in a timely, promising, and ultimately (IIRC) celebrated major film. Further, he is in a profession where degrees are less important than informal training, self-examination, and mentorship, and individual potential.
There is a convention that, IIRC, is formal enuf that "(n.d.)" (for "no degree") is understood by academics and human-resources folk. IMO it is appropriate at least to his individual case, and i'm applying it to his infobox.

Original research?

12 Years a Slave opened to wide acclaim, with many critics citing Ejiofor's performance and declaring him an almost-certain Academy Award nominee for Best Actor.[1][2][3][4]

  2. ^ Wallenger, Christopber (19 October 2013). "Chiwetel Ejiofor breaks through in '12 Years a Slave'". Boston Globe.

  4. ^ Mandell, Andrea (16 November 2013). "Oscar buzz follows Fassbender, Ejiofor in '12 Years'". USA Today.

Per Wikipedia:No original research, do any of these sources explicitly support the statement that "many critics" cited Ejiofor's performance as a near certainty for an Oscar nod?

I also have trouble with the phrase "wide acclaim". Besides looking like an original interpretation of the sources, it's so vague and clichéd as to be meaningless. Wikipedia:Neutral point of view is clear about eliminating such expressions. Any suggestions? —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 18:13, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Are we certain he's Nigerian?
