Brief review

My reflection after an brief read of this comprehensive article is that it would benefit from a better laid out heading structure - for instance, heading 2 is currently very dominant. The article would also be improved through additional wikification and standardisation of the writing (e.g. % vs. percent, cubic metre vs. m3). Bulletlists or tables could be used more frequently where facts are lined up, or those sections could preferably be rewritten into more fluent text. --rxnd ( t | | c ) 19:12, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review

Someone's finally getting around to this...

  • Sources. There are currently two citation needed tags in the article. Furthermore, a number of claims are made that, in my opinion, could use further sources. This is especially true in cases where figures are stated or someone estimates something (e.g. "On the morning of September 7, 2005, approximately 60% of the city was still under water", "The 17th Street Canal Levee, was now estimated to have a breach 450 feet (150 m) long"). The work that's been done so far is impressive, but there is a lot of information that is not particularly well sourced. I think in some cases the sources you have cited cover further information in the article, but it's not always obvious from the placement of the citation.

If it would make things easier for you, I can go and sprinkle CN tags all over the place; just let me know.

Style observations:

  • "Rock/stone/crushed concrete" should be separated into separate words.
  • Levee Repairs - Flooding section has two closely placed "Approximately"s - vocab variety is good.
  • "Several private firms have volunteered services and provided assistance in design of the closure." - they are still volunteering services? There are several points in the article where tense may be incorrect - later on, "Heavy equipment on the ground has been placing rock." They are still placing rock? Strongly suggest a copyedit for present/past tense.
  • "Helicopters were dropping large sandbags made of strong, synthetic materials" - what materials?
  • "They closed the larger of the two breaches on the east side yesterday and filled the smaller of the two breaches with clay and stone. Work will begin on the west side as soon as feasible." Yesterday? (This sounds cut-and-pasted...)
  • "The Inner Harbor Navigation Canal (IHNC) Lock became operational but was still not operating due to bridge closures and sunken barges, the removal of which was anticipated to take until mid-week." What week?
  • "Tiger Pass was shoaled to less than 6'. This channel, authorized to 14' provides a shorter route for vessels traveling to the west from the Mississippi River near the mouth. Primarily used by fishing and supply vessels. Dredging was planned." - awkwardly stated, a sentence fragment in there, should be copyedited.
  • The list in the Halfway Done section should be better integrated - some sort of heading would be nice, or perhaps turn it into a table?
  • Some of the very short later subsections of Levee Repairs can probably be compressed. A Mainarticle link to Hurricane Rita might be nice.

Overall:

  • Well written: Reasonably well written, but needs some copyediting/style adjustments.
  • Factually accurate (to the best of my ability to comprehend). Verifiable, but not yet well-enough verified.
  • Broad in coverage.
  • Neutral
  • Stable

I am placing the GA on hold for now pending changes to the article. I might have more suggestions as things get fixed up.

Title

I considered this a "good read". My only issue was with the full page title. It was seem that "New Orleans infrastructure repair after Hurricane Katrina" would have been shorter and concise. Otr500 (talk) 14:30, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Downgraded Class

I decided to downgraded the article from B to C class because it just isn't comaprable to other B class articles. Almost all the citations are outdated and new new access dates, also a lot of them need better formatting and are dead. The page has been mostly unchanged since 2010, and is going to need a lot of cleanup, (such as past tense and present tense fixes) to get to B class. 71.208.32.185 (talk) 02:24, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
