Thoughts

  • Seems on the right lines, but obviously needs more pictures. There seem to be some that could be used in the Commons "Art of Australia" category & maybe elsewhere - George Bush with a bark-painting etc. Copyright obviously an issue. But there must be photos of artists around.
  • Lead needs to be longer
  • Not much on style, formal characteristics; I realize may be difficult to generalize. "Styles and themes" section pretty short & non-specific; could be greatly expanded.
  • Something on the extent to which it also draws from Western traditions; some must do?
  • Also influence on other Austalian art?
  • Presumably there was no tradition of professional art in IA culture before, or recently anyway; so movements new in that way.
  • Opposition? Are some critics unimpressed?
  • Works in museums outside Oz; there must be some.

Contemporary with what?

I know the word is also used to mean "modern"; but wouldn't "modern" itself be just as good, and less ambiguous? Paul Magnussen (talk) 02:33, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article uses "contemporary" because that is what is generally used in reliable sources. The term "modern" in art and architecture is sometimes used to refer to particular 20th century styles and/or movements, and so could be misleading.
