Crimean ASSR was not created directly from the Empire's Taurida Governorate. There was several short-lived regimes (both "Red" and "White") in Crimea after the collaps of the Empire in 1917-1920. We should mention this somehow. Don Alessandro 17:26, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

collaboration

The collective deportation of Crimean Tatars by Stalin was of course a crime no matter what, already by its nature as collective punishment, but the claim that "alleged collaboration" was a "false pretext" bears some examination. It seems that sources arguing it was a "false pretext" focus on actual military service of Tatars in the German army, or even in the SS (Tatar Legions); otoh, "collaboration" may simply mean "lack of resistance", and apparently the local government was on rather good terms with the occupation; it seems this was because the Nazis in a kind of oversight placed an actual nice guy as head of the Crimean district, who refused orders to terrorise the population, who in turn did not care to organise uprisings. So the deportation was a kind of delayed backlash from the good fortune of falling under the governance of a nice Nazi who basically just wanted to spend his time sightseeing Gothic monuments. --

Thinking about it, we already do this for articles on the communist governments of Romania, Czechoslovakia, Albania, Yugoslavia, etc. Support move and merge. However, I wouldn't support merging all four governments in Crimea formed from the start of WW1 to the formation of the USSR. Ideally just the two Bolshevik ones. This article could also be moved to
Soviet Crimea to follow standard practice in similar articles like Ottoman Bulgaria. Super Ψ Dro 17:35, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply

Needs to be spilt

The importance of the original Crimean ASSR cannot be overstated and is worthy of a separate article. Merging it to deny it its own article is Stalinist propaganda to conceal and downplay the existance of the original Crimean ASSR in line with Soviet censorship that demanded everyone forget it existed. The discussion about the merge was hasty, had only 2 votes, and did not try to consider the opinions of any Crimean Tatars on the matter.--72.49.53.74 (talk) 17:50, 4 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
