Wang Jiangmin, 59, former Chinese programmer, creator of the famous KV series anti-virus software, heart attack. The adjective former seems odd here. Is he a former programmer or a former Chinese? In fact, he is former everything. Can someone explain what to me seems an unnecessary adjective?Derrick Chapman 11:30, 6 April 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Derrickchapman (talkcontribs)

IMO, and correct me if I'm wrong, any time the word former appears on this page, the entry is redundant. Also, the other adjectives famous and KV were deleted, the former for
WP:PEACOCK, and the latter for being obscure outside of China. Ed (talk) 03:42, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply
]
Just because a person has died, the adjective "former" is not redundant. If the current Senator from Utah died, the entry would say Senator from Utah. If the person who recently died used to be a Senator from Utah, but was not the current Senator at the time of death, the entry would say former Senator from Utah. The former designates a description of the person at a time prior to his death, as opposed to a description of the person after the time of his death. It is rather obvious that after any person's death, they are all considered "former". But, on this page, the "former" adjective does not refer to after death ... it refers to the person's (former) position at a time prior to his death. Thus, the adjective "former" is not redundant, in that it is not used to describe people after death. Thanks. (64.252.65.146 (talk) 03:32, 13 April 2010 (UTC))[reply]
But then most of the entries would have to carry the word "former": former football player, former businessperson, former politician. Most people die in their old age, when anything significant they have achieved in life happened "formerly". We usually work around the use of "former" for politicians by specifying their term in office. WWGB (talk) 03:49, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's a very good point. By the time of death at old age, much of their notability was from "former" activities. Listing the years for political offices is a clear indication of when the "former" activities took place. In my post above, I was articulating what the word "former" means to me, when (and if) I see it listed on this page. If the Wikipedia policy is to not use the word on this page, I can live with that. Thanks. (64.252.65.146 (talk) 14:53, 13 April 2010 (UTC))[reply]

As Principal Chief, she was the head of government for the sovereign Cherokee people -- shouldn't she be listed as a "politician"? If Barack Obama died today, you wouldn't list him as an "activist" or "community organizer" would you? Pfranson (talk) 21:48, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Did she receive a regular salary for her work in leading the Cherokees? Jim Michael (talk) 20:07, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
According to Article VII, Section 6 of the Cherokee Constitution, the Principal Chief and Deputy Chief both receive compensation.[[1]] Pfranson (talk) 14:27, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

April 10th air accident

The Air Accident link beside the names of the victims should link to this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Polish_Air_Force_Tu-154_crash. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.36.231.165 (talk) 09:16, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is a separate article for the passengers:

The inclusion of all notable people has already provoked a trimming and a revert. The rare nature of this incident suggests WP may not have a policy. My preference is for keeping the extended list. Philip Cross (talk) 12:09, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
My preference is for keeping the list for all the reasons that Philip Cross stated. Since this list is much greater than the amount of notable deaths from, using a recent example, the 2010 Haiti earthquake, maybe there should be some sort of minimum number or some list-size appearance instituted to make this stand out from those who died that day who weren't involved in the disaster. Ed (talk) 13:39, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Everyone who has a Wikipedia article and who died this year should be listed on this article; there is no justification for removing any notable passengers from this article. Jim Michael (talk) 13:59, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That was not what the preceding said. That discussion was for creating a special sub-category within a date, which is unprecedented. Ed (talk) 15:00, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think it is best to keep it as it is, with the list of notable people killed in the plane crash in a separate section within April 10. Jim Michael (talk) 21:06, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I removed all the references and cause of death yesterday because they were all duplicate and stuck them under the heading. Although it's not normally "the done thing", I think the deaths of over 40 notable individuals in one incident is rare enough that we can alter things and decide each one on a case by case and I think it was worth making totally obvious that they were all from one incident rather than a large number of separate plane crashes. I also agree with the above posters that every person notable enough to have an article and who died on that date should be listed there (even if the article doesn't yet exist). This kind of event is, I think (I hope), rare enough that it won't be much of an issue. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:53, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that this is a sensible way of treating such incidents; a subheading within a date doesn't seem to me to be unreasonable and neither does factoring out commonality such as links to the article dealing with the incident. It seems to be more or less taken as read that most of the deaths were of notable people, so we should tolerate redlinks as we normally do. Gold Stars to those who were bold enough to have the imagination to realise that unusual cases need unusual responses, even here. Rodhullandemu 22:03, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Maria Aurelia Bisutti
's death by dementia

Can dementia really be called the cause of death?Paradise coyote (talk) 20:25, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The ref says she was diagnosed with dementia early this year. It doesn't mention any other disease, nor does it state what she died of. She could have had dementia for years before it was diagnosed. Jim Michael (talk) 21:17, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I rm'ed him from the list because he only ever played college football, which means he doesn't meet

WP:ATHLETE, and has no reason for notability. Nevertheless, because someone created an article for him after his death (and contested the prod based on the fact that since he played for a Big 12 team, he was notable, which is not what the WP guideline says), my removal here was undone. My thought process is that since there is nothing that makes him notable (other than "former college football player"), the fact that there is a blue link article has no bearing on his inclusion in this list. Rather than edit war over a very small thing, I figured I would see what people thought as to what has baring on what. MSJapan (talk) 11:58, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply

He's notable until a speedy deletion, prod or AfD determines otherwise. They are the procedures for deleting articles, not discussions on a talk page. WWGB (talk) 12:18, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. While he has an article, he's notable. If that article is deleted, then he can be removed from this list. Bretonbanquet (talk) 12:18, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There are several sites that say he was stabbed. Not sure what kind of confirmation is needed to modify the "aparent homicide". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Andres arg (talkcontribs) 23:40, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Evelyn Cunningham died on April 28 of this year. Can someone add this?

 Done - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 12:52, 30 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Listed for days as an edema death. it was extensively reported so for days by several media. inthis interview in spanish a doctor who talked to him says he suffered no edema since he performed difficult manual task impossible to do under edema suffering, teammates confirmed this in radio interviews [[2]] but that possibly he died of hypokalemia but that causes remain unknown since no body was recovered. i have tried to change it for days without success. i'll try it no more —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.47.192.162 (talk) 06:55, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And here are more than 450 references that DO link his death with edema. WWGB (talk) 07:07, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
