Perhaps something could be added about Detroit-area cable tv providers offering free cable on Oct. 30th to keep the kiddies inside. Dunno if they still do that.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.160.120.185 (talkcontribs) 9 October 2006

Statistics

Anyone have any links to official statistics of the increase in violent crime in and around Detroit? I heard vague stats about 20 fires on Devil's Night of this year. PolarisSLBM 21:14, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Devil's Night versus Mischief Night

Regarding the question of whether to merge the two articles, I vote no because the two events have different origins. Devil's Night originates from the observance of Halloween, while Mischief Night as celebrated in Yorkshire stems from Guy Fawkes Day, thus the two events, while similar, come from very different origins.

As a native (born in Henry Ford Hospital), I also agree that the two traditions are separate. Devil's Night remains one of my fondest memories of a deranged childhood. Thankfully, the statute of limitations has run out on some of the more destructive episodes....

Wanted to add my two cents. I'm from near detroit and have never heard of Mischieve night. But I rememeber houses going up in flames in Pointiac every Devil's night.. that junk is in the papers. But mischeive night? Not in the papers. --69.244.153.46 16:55, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

my understanding was that it was a convinient (allbeit illegal and dangerous) way for people to get rid of the abandoned houses in their neighborhoods that can cause such problems with drugs and such.

so id say its a detroit only thing, and not the same as other mischeif nights.

Not fair to say its a "detroit only" thing, its pretty common in other Michigan cities as well. Here in Saginaw a good chunk of the abandoned housing on the east side gets burned down most years. Fortunately with our declining population there's always more abandoned housing where that came from.

Devil's Night Decline

Someone needs to be much more objective in the writing of this article. The number of arsons and crime on Devil's night in the past decade or so has plummeted. --Criticalthinker 07:30, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

== devils night == By Brianna M.

Devils night is one day before Halloween night, its were kids of ages 13 to 19 go and play pranks on all kinds of people. Devil's Night is an integral part of the 1994 film The Crow.

Recent edits

I’ve trimmed the "outside Detroit" section. The various names are explained at the

Mischief night
article and the petty vandalism is par for the course in most places on Mischief night; Detroit’s Devils Night is (or maybe was) something else again. The discussion here and at Mischief night was that this page should focus on the particular disorder seen in Detroit, though if it deteriorates elsewhere, like it seems to have done in Saginaw, that should be mentioned here too. I've also rewritten the introduction a bit to reflect this. Swanny18 (talk) 17:30, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal

I suggest merging Devil's Night and Mischief Night. Although this page's scope is about Detroit specifically, the concept of Devil's Night is not specific to Detroit by any means. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 21:02, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Support merge. This seems to be just Detroit's term for it. PARAKANYAA (talk) 03:10, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
