Digitize/Digitization and Digitalization are two different things, for example check Accenture's blog: http://insuranceblog.accenture.com/digitization-versus-digitalization-the-stakes-for-insurers/ 88.192.137.205 (talk) 10:17, 25 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
"Accenture defines digitalization as..." so it seems to be just this insurance company making its own definition. Let's do this merge. Sophie means wisdom (talk) 12:59, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I see I am too late here, but while Digitization is representation through digits, digitalization is (in my part of the world) used about the integration of digital tools and information into daily life. [1][2][3] Sweden has a minister of digitalization Peter Eriksson, and a digitalization-council - and digitizing data is hardly part of their mandate. Move

All articles merged. But, it wouldn't be better to move this article to

disam

Obvious we need a disambig page, for these are all meanings, and though there's a common thread, the material is different. But one "word" that does not apply is "electronify" . If it has any meaning at all, it seems from Google to be used in to sense of convert a large project to an electronic version, which is much more than just digitizing something. Its a separate concept, and I'm not sure what normal human word it corresponds to. We can deal with it on the disam page (or here, as a ref. But it is not a synonym.DGG 06:31, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Strange...

Why does Code: Lyoko receive an honorary mention in the Fiction section, but the by-far more famous cartoon Digimon (which alludes to the concept of digitization in it's name) have no mention? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.203.252.148 (talk) 03:54, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Add section to differentiate Digitalis use?

the word 'digitise' or 'digitalise' is also used as far as i know in medical circles to put a patient on the drug digoxin, which comes from the "Digitalis" genus of plants. It's a medication used to treat some heart conditions and can be lifelong. Should we include a section to differentiate this use? It's really completely unrelated and a reader wishing to find out use of this word might be completely confused. Btw I'm really not making this up, I've seen it being used in a few different places by established writers. Particular incidents escapes me now though. A quick google search of 'digitalize digoxin' has quite a few hits on medical sites such as uptodate, pubmed and rxlist. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Squiggle (talkcontribs) 15:06, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting scenario but not one warranting a section in the article. If you type "digitalise" into the search engine it asks if you meant to type "digitalis". If you type digitalis in hoping to find something about AD conversion, you need to learn to type! Seriously, if you can find instances of the use of "digitalise" refer to medication, bring it up at the db page, as there's already a dab link at the top of the article here. --mikaultalk 12:30, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Collaborative Digitization Practices website incorrect

I followed the link cited for the Collaborative Digitization Practices (10), and it brought me to sketchy site about getting gun licenses. Should this link be removed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.218.14.249 (talk) 17:11, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, now removed. BabelStone (talk) 21:32, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

fundamental error/omission

This article repeatedly states that digitization produces a finite set of numerical values. This ignores the fact that data can be digitized by quantizing samples at specific levels, without ever assigning them "numbers". WilliamSommerwerck (talk) 15:10, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Two distinct concepts

Just briefly and sorry in advance for not providing backup, but "digitization" and "digitalization" are often treated as different and distinct concepts, including in Germany where I live. The former is essentially scanning in some form, perhaps also with some semantic interpretation, like OCR and even human markup. While the latter is the act of computerizing information systems and processes. A much deeper concept that includes business process engineering, database design, ontology, interoperability, common standards, and such. With best wishes. New section on audio digitization

I wanted to introduce a few key concepts about audio reformatting and preservation practices. This can certainly be expanded on, but I've included references to literature by leaders in the field, including The Association for Recorded Sound Collections (ARSC) and The International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives (IASA). Topics include legacy formats, digital target formats, playback machines, signal flow, and archival standards.Sauerkrautrock (talk) 16:54, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thoughts on "Digitization versus digital preservation" section

I am working on editing this article for my Digital Curation and Preservation class. I would like to move the fifth paragraph under Digitization versus digital preservation to a new section titled Challenges and fill it out more and add citations. It also seems like the last two paragraphs in that section should be moved to the digital preservation page as they focus specifically on that rather than the differences between digitization and digital preservation. Does anyone else have any thoughts on these ideas? Thank you. Serialsgirl (talk) 01:19, 23 October 2021 (UTC) I am moving my final article edits to the main page. I removed several statements from other writers that was not cited and that I could not find a proper citation for. This is the first time I have edited a page, so please let me know if there are improvements I can make in the future.--Serialsgirl (talk) 18:20, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
