I am no expert on this subject, but whilst Googling around I have found a few sources with which this article seems to be inconsistent. Specifically,

1. The article states A European Union battlegroup (EUBG) is a military force consisting of at least 1500 combat soldiers.[1] The [1] is a reference to the BBC article at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6441417.stm . However, neither the given reference nor any other source that I can find support the assertion that a BG must contain at least 1500 combat troops. In fact 1500 seems to be the minimum for total strength, including a significant number of support personnel and headquarters staff. Most BGs for which I have found any information on OOB (and none of it is detailed!), the combat troops consisted of 1 infantry battalion, 1 artillery battery, and a couple of smaller units (e.g. troop of SF.) A generic diagram is shown on page 16 of this reference: http://www.iss.europa.eu/uploads/media/cp097.pdf Infantry battalions can vary considerably in size but such a force is likely to be around 900 troops, including supporting services organic to the combat units. Of these, only about 300 would be infantry riflemen. If that sounds a little low, bear in mind that these formations are supposed to be able to be self-supporting for 120 days, 6,000 km from home. A 1:5 tooth-to-tail ratio is quite lean under the circumstances. However, as the number is not fixed we should simply say that it is at least 1500 all troops, typically including one battalion and additional combat and logistical support units.
2. The article gives the impression that EU Battlegroups are permanent formations. In fact so far as I can see, they are mainly ad hoc groupings that various nations provide when their turn comes up on the roster. There has been a tendency for a few nations to form semi-permanent groupings to simplify logistics and inter-operability, however even these groupings show as many exceptions as adherences to the rule. For example, the linked Balkan Battlegroup article says that Greece is part of the HELBROC / Balkan Battlegroup -- but while it has contributed once in that BG and plans to again in 2011, it has also contributed in a total different formation. Spain has so far had 3 actual contributions and 2 more scheduled; there is a tendency for these to include France and Portugal, but none of them is in the exact same grouping as any other. -- 203.20.101.203 (talk) 04:59, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm confused about the roster for 2019-II: https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/europe/eu-battlegroups.htm has the UK while the article lists FR. Do we have an authoritative source?Oneiros (talk) 21:34, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Running through the first ten cited sources I find four are duplicates of an unavailable article, one behind a paywall, two more in Dutch etc. etc. The effect is that the article is almost all unverifiable. I find the statement "The forces are under the direct control of the Council of the European Union." without any source at all and it appears to be a falsehood. Has this page been hijacked by brexiters? It looks like it needs rewriting from scratch. I would delete the whole thing but I am not a particularly experience editor. Some of the additions in 2022 seem unable to distinguish between NATO and the EU. Although they cooperate by the Berlin Plus agreement and their membership largely overlaps, NATO battlegroups and EU battlegroups operate separately and autonomously. NATO battlegroups may be worth mentioning in this article but only when they are explicitly identifiable as such and have relevance to the EU battlegroups on the other hand.
