I find the lead for this page falls foul of WP:PUFFERY: "He reconstructed all the main roads", "He sewered nine miles of private roads" e.t.c. He did it all, presumably all by himself, since there couldnt have been a team of workers helping him, no. He did it. Then comes the "His crowning achievement was his design of..." and the "His extensive works helped ... make the town what it is today." Also funny is the "Archeological artifacts turned up by his constant digging..." like this dude never took a break in his life. T.b.h. reading this I'm surprised there aren't temples dedicated to "His" glory. Ok, that was an exaggeration, but still...

On a more serious note, a lot of this is unsourced or comes from local newspapers praising a local engineer. It would be good to find sources that are more independent of this particular town to establish notability, and to clear out what cannot be sourced.--Ribidag (talk) 16:43, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

All of the article is properly sourced from authoritative sources. The papers were not praising the engineer - far from it - he was a total pain in the butt for digging up the town during most of his career with the town council. The old British newspapers do not spell out the fact that some characters are irritating - you have to read it between the lines. We can't read between lines (interpret) on WP, so what you have in the article are the pure facts expressed openly in the sources. He nevertheless did a solid job, and the present town thoroughfares etc. are founded on his work. I have rephrased the article to make it clear that as one man he did not dig up a whole town with his one spade; he was the chief engineer and town surveyor, and he led a team of council workers - however in his position he was the brains of all the work. He had to design and oversee all the works, therefore he was responsible, as a leader, for all the work. Local historians have also done a lot of work on the subject of this engineer, especially in respect of the building of the King's Hall. The main book (by a published historian) resulting from that is listed in External links as further reading. The sources used are authoritative, and independent of the subject. I suggest that you consult the sources before jumping to conclusions about any of the article being unsourced. Your comments in that respect are unfounded.
