Regency flag

@R Prazeres Hi, check this flag out, it goes back to the regency period, as shown here: [1] and here: [2]

the source for it mentions that it was created by France in 1848 or 1870 for French ships from Algeria. Nourerrahmane (talk) 16:08, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

French language

@Applodion, French language is not an official language in Algeria, it's not even spoken by the majority of the population, it has no reason to be in this article next to Arabic and Berber, as this language is mostly related to Algerian colonial past more than anything else, You have no good reason to edit war. This article is about Algeria and not French Algeria. Nourerrahmane (talk) 22:48, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Algeria is not even a member of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, so your argument doesn't stand here. Nourerrahmane (talk) 22:51, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Shall I remind you of all the sources in "French language in Algeria" (French is literally Algeria's lingua franca, spoken by a third of the population). As this seems to be a similar, weird revisionist push like the failed attempt to remove French at Talk:Algeria, I'll ping @Liu1126: and @ⴽⵓⵙⴰⵢⵍⴰ: who were involved in that discussion. Applodion (talk) 22:55, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Still, it's not an official language, but a language of secondary importance, after Arabic, Berber and English obviously, so you're the one pushing his bias here. Also, a more recent reaserch is needed, people definately speak French less than they were 16 years ago. English has gained massive momentum in Algeria, the government has undertook a lot of measures to promote English and rely less on French these last 2 years, it's rather insulting to have a non official language in the lead of a top importance article regarding Algeria (unless we're talking about French Wikipedia). unless there is consensus that French should be added per WP:Consensus, Edit warring is a No No. Nourerrahmane (talk) 23:11, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As of 2023, 15 out of 44 million Algerians speak French. You are aware that you are basically falling for government propaganda, right? French is widely used in Algeria, regardless of whether politicans like it. Applodion (talk) 23:21, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't care about your political opinion regarding my government. Nourerrahmane (talk) 23:30, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You got the wrong idea of the French language use in Algeria, or i would say "outdated". Nourerrahmane (talk) 23:32, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This isn't a question of politics, but reality - or rather how governments often don't like reality, and then pretend that it is different than it actually is. Anyway, seeing as only one language should be included, this discussion is over either way. Applodion (talk) 08:47, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that having the French language in this article is problematic. In any case,
MOS:FORLANG calls for a single language that is closely associated with the subject (Arabic in this instance). I also removed the Berber transcriptions (please see the very long discussion and RfC in the Algeria article for why they shouldn't be used). M.Bitton (talk) 23:23, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply

Well, if only one language should be included, then it's a different matter. Applodion (talk) 08:47, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Everything you said is false. Plus, Arabic is the lingua franca of Algeria, not French. Kurdish Elf (talk) 04:58, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
