There has been some confusion about Lewis's birthplace, and the birthplace in the article has been changed several times. Two highly-reputable sources give Llandaff, Wales.

• The Biographical Dictionary of the United States Congress says "born in Llandaff, Wales, March 21, 1713"^[1]
• The Dictionary of Welsh Biography says "Julia Delafield (his great-granddaughter) [...] speaks of him as being born at Llandaff [...]".^[2]

A recent editor changed the article to say Llangurig, with the check-in comment Francis Lewis was born in Llangurig. There is a bust of him in Llangurig church. The Llangurig article supports this, without citing a source. Lewis is a very common surname in Wales. The only sources I have found online give any birthplace other than Llandaff appear to be copied from Wikipedia.

Born in Llandaff, Wales, he was the child of Morgan Lewis and Anne Pettingale. By the age of five, Lewis had been orphaned and was sent to live with his maternal aunt, who was skilled in intellect. He entered mercantile business house in London, then at 21 after inheriting property, moved to Whitestone, New York in 1734. He was taken prisoner while serving as a British mercantile agent in 1756 and sent to France for imprisonment. On his return to America, he became active in politics. He was a member of the Committee of Sixty, a member of the New York Provincial Congress, and was elected a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1775. In 1778, he signed the United States Articles of Confederation. From 1779 to 1780, Lewis served as the Chairman of the Continental Board of Admiralty. Lewis is also one of the founding members of the Sons of Liberty, an American patriotic group against unreasonable British policy. Lewis was married to Elizabeth Annesley, the sister of his business partner Edward Annesley. The couple had seven children, only of which three made it to adulthood. His home, located in Whitestone, in Queens, New York, was destroyed in the American Revolutionary War by British soldiers, who also arrested his wife and denied her a change of clothing or adequate food for weeks while in captivity. Her hardships in captivity ruined her health and led to her death in 1779.[3][4]Lewis died on December 31, 1802, although his memorial in Trinity Church Cemetery gives his year of death as 1803.Jbwestga20 (talk) 01:31, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

He was a business man and politician who represented New York in the Continental Congress. I added "His son" before Morgan. Otherwise,the name comes out of the blue with no explanation. It is not clear why a summary of his son's career is relevant here. Perhaps it could be moved to amplify the description of Morgan in the list of Francis Lewis's surviving children. Rmrwiki (talk) 01:41, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Although known to most as a Boulevard in Queens or a High School, Francis Lewis was a true American patriot.
