Sound library links

I got onto the website with the sound library to which the dead links point, but I'm not sure whether to leave the dead links there or which of the links to replace so here's the URL for anyone who's more confident about these things: http://macaulaylibrary.org/browse/taxa/anura.31.53.22.41 (talk) 15:12, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sound localization

I don't have time to fix it right now, but this short section is inaccurate. Frogs are actually pretty good at localizing sounds... This has been worked out for gray treefrogs and barking treefrogs among others. They can also localize in the vertical plane. Curiously, they do poorly with front/back sound source localization.

The issue is that, because of their small heads and lack of external ears, they cannot use the same mechanisms (in the same ways) that large mammals use to localize sounds. Instead, their ears are connected through open air passages in their heads, which makes each eardrum directional. As mentioned, the lungs are somehow involved, but this is not nearly as well understood as the existing text imply.
