Thorlekin / Þorlekin

Is this man's surname actually "Thorlekin"? Or is "Thorlekin" and anglicisation of "Þorlekin"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.136.146.9 (talk) 17:35, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A related question: both Jónsson and Thorkelin are surnames -- shouldn't he be categorised according to the first surname? --Morgan TG (talk) 21:30, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

8 October 1709 – 4 March 1978?

Is that his lifespan? 217.149.173.169 (talk) 02:55, 25 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistent dates

There are multiple inconsistencies in the dates mentioned in the article. According to the first line, Thorkelin died in 1829, which appears plausible with a birth date in 1752. But then the following events are long past his life time:

  • "He was elected a Foreign Honorary Member of the prestigious and honorary American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1890."
  • "Thorkelin had prepared Beowulf for publication by 1870"
  • "The poem was eventually published in 1898." The linked source states 1815 and not 1898. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.15.250.169 (talk) 06:55, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
