As the article says, primarily lack of rolling stock (which also helped kill the A branch). "Changes to service in the MBTA district" has more gritty details if you're interested. The spider maps still show the southern stops because the decision to abandon the line isn't 100% set in stone yet. --Jnik 16:08, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The tracks have largely been paved over or not maintained, the overhead wires are completely gone, and all the maps show the line ending at Heath Street. It's permanently gone. The last tracks were just paved over (hooray!), although I don't have a Globe or other cite (this should be added.) This doesn't change the fate of the line, though--any service restoration would need to be ADA-compliant, which would require laying new track (so that the vehicles would discharge passengers at the curb instead of into the middle of the street.) --Jnik (talk) 23:31, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

• No, it's not appropriate to show. This is not a proposal by the MBTA. This is something thrown into a report by the city of Boston, with an eye towards raking in the Jamaica Plain vote in an election year. The MBTA (successfully) fought to keep from any further E Branch expansion even though they were bound by the terms of a legal settlement to do so, and they still don't have the cash to finish the northern Green Line extension to which they committed a decade ago; there is no chance whatsoever that this "proposed" station would ever be built. It's not out of line for it to be mentioned in a laundry list of proposed expansion plans in the article, but putting it in the route map is a wild
  WP:CRYSTAL violation.

Likely infer from reading that sentence that a theoretical station stop beyond Heath Street would be, indeed, the next stop beyond Heath Street, which is not one bit more information than they'd gain by seeing Hyde Square on a stylized graphical route map. I generally agree - this is not a project that has entered the formal planning stage. When it appears on a capital investment plan or otherwise enters formal planning (i.e, the state indicating it actually plans to construct it) then it's worth adding. Also, note geography. The community proposal puts Hyde Square station at either the former Perkins or Moraine location, with intermediate stop(s) to be determined. Agreeing with Raven and Pi here: until (if ever) it gets put on a concrete list of future projects actually in planning by the MBTA, it should stay off the RDT (the same reason why neither the oft-requested Red Line extensions beyond Braintree and Alewife, nor the Orange Line extensions to Reading/Needham/Route 128, nor any extension of the Blue Line past Lynn and/or Charles/MGH, nor a possible extension of the Franklin Line to Milford, nor the possible future extension of the Fairmount Line to Foxboro, nor a far-future extension of the Providence/Stoughton Line beyond Kingston to Westerly, are shown on their respective RDTs).
