Kanye allegations

I have removed the page's uncritical repetition of Kanye West's allegation that Pasternak threatened to have him involuntarily committed. The source for this allegation is a twitter post by Kanye West himself, less than 5 hours ago. Kanye West's twitter is not an authoritative source, especially not for a serious allegation against a living person. If and when more authoritative sources address the subject, we can discuss whether it's time to add a section discussing the allegation in some balanced fashion. Gkroth (talk) 04:05, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

IP users have been edit warring the allegations into the article and other users have been reverting them, and the article has now been semi-protected as a result. Obviously this instance in the text got lost in the crossfire. Thanks for removing it. Hemiauchenia (talk) 04:08, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The article was a mess early this morning (UTC). I actually semi-protected the article briefly just to assess the situation, because an IP was making multiple edits each minute. I reverted back to an old version and may have lost some good, or at least good faith, edits in the process. Having figured out what was going on, I then put a longer semi-protection up to prevent further disruption.
@
self-published source may only be used for statements about oneself (and even then, with limits). West's tweet absolutely cannot be used to support an allegation about another person. —C.Fred (talk) 12:20, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply

There should still be a section in "Notable Clients" explaining the part Harley Pasternak played in the 2016 hospitalization and arrest of Kanye West. There's multiple official source and those are not allegation. https://www.tmz.com/2016/11/21/kanye-west-hospitalized/
The decision to try to hide the fact Harley is proudly jewish is very questionable also. How is it not pertinent when he's very open about it and forge his personality around it? This edits seems partisans at best. Hidding an agenda at worst. 142.115.180.41 (talk) 15:52, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please read Wikipedia's Biography of Living Person's guidelines, in particular,
WP:BLP1E, which state that editors should "exercise restraint and include only material relevant to the person's notability, focusing on high-quality secondary sources." Harley is not noteable for being Jewish, nor is he notable for his role in Kanye West's 2016 hospitalization. In addition to this, TMZ is not a high-quality secondary source. If we're going to edit this page, it should be in the direction of cutting information out of it, not adding more, given that it's clearly being used in a promotional capacity by Mr. Pasternak. --Gkroth (talk) 20:51, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply

Most celebrities who are Jewish aren't noted for being Jewish, yet it's still mentioned that they're Jewish. He's not noted for being Canadian either, yet we're mentioning that. Vember94 (talk) 22:18, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with this, I will re-add as there was no real reason for removal to begin with. Just because a select number of individuals are vandalising does not mean that said content needs to be removed.

Most Jewish celebrities _do not_ have that mentioned in the lead of their bio. Per
MOS:ETHNICITY: "Ethnicity, religion, or sexuality should generally not be in the lead unless it is relevant to the subject's notability." Qzd (talk) 00:51, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply
]
This point falls flat because his ethnicity clearly is relevant to the recent controversy surrounding Kanye West, I am not sure if there are any reliable sources as of current but MARCA (no clue if this is classed as reliable) says "The famous rapper's account was previously suspended after tweeting anti-Semitic comments back in October. This time, West shared a screenshot of his alleged chat with Pasternak, who is Jewish."

This is
WP:RECENTISM; the lead is supposed to summarize someone's life not refer obliquely to recent controversies. If the event was in the article, that would be the place to put it. Or early life, with RS, like other bios. Qzd (talk) 01:19, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply
]
If I were to devote 50% of the lead to controversy with Kanye West, then yes that would be RECENTISM, but simply putting 'Jewish' before 'Canadian' is not when he has been described in 5 separate sources (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) as such. For the moment anyway I will change the 'Education' part to Early life.

Article can be improved by adding ethnicity

According to sources Harley Pasterniak is Jewish.

EDIT: Forward.com is an antisemitic news source posing as a jewish one. Just take a look at their "antisemitic" article reel https://forward.com/tag/antisemitism/. Or their comprehensive list of Nazi monuments https://forward.com/series/nazi-collaborator-monuments-around-the-world/.

Forward.com is a troll website, and should not be considered a valid source. I wouldn't be surprised to learn the same holds for JewishJournal.com. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adrianthe3rd (talkcontribs) 20:07, 20 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No, Forward.com is not a "troll website" that is "pretending." Check The Forward for more information. Quit lying. 71.59.196.190 (talk) 22:04, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Some anti-semite removed Pasternak's Jewish ethnicity from his wikipedia page. This should be added back in. 24.99.187.43 (talk) 19:06, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's in the first paragraph of the early life section. —C.Fred (talk) 04:18, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

He is of Jewish descent. For completion this should be stated 49.186.52.151 (talk) 19:02, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You mean, say something like "Pasternak is Jewish and grew up in a 'typical Ashkenazi household'," which is already in the article? —C.Fred (talk) 19:04, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This is a troll website. The source cited for that claim is Adrianthe3rd (talk) 20:08, 20 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2012 arrest

Hi @Gkroth—you undid my change that added a legal issues section with details of Pasternak's 2012 arrest for assaulting two men.

You cited WP:NPF—but Pasternak is clearly a public figure, being the face of "Harley Pasternak's Hollywood Workout" for the Wii, being a host of The Revolution, showing up on Oprah, being a frequent TV guest on The Today Show, Good Morning America, and more.

Please see Wikipedia:Who is a low-profile individual .

Pasternak clearly fits the pattern here under "High-profile": Has given one or more scheduled interviews to a notable publication, website, podcast, or television or radio program, as a "media personality" (a.k.a. "public face" or "big name"), a self-described "expert", or some other ostensibly (or would-be) notable commentator. Need not be a "household name", simply self-promotional.

---

Clearly, the event is well documented, appeared in a secondary source, and is backed up by court documents. It has nothing to do with the allegations being discussed above, but is simply the kind of information that always would have been in this page if it was high quality, and not written like an advertisement. Ctbeiser (talk) 02:24, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have re-added this.

Notable Clients

Pasternak also had a long-standing working relationship with Kanye West. He urged West to apologise for his antisemitic remarks made in autumn 2022, with no outcome. As such, Pasternak broke off their 15-year friendship.[1] Prettay bad (talk) 01:00, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think we need better sources that gossip columnist Perez Hilton to add this. Hemiauchenia (talk) 01:10, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sources regarding Kanye West

Most of the sources you can find discussing the drama with Kanye West are awful, so I can see why this article makes no mention of it at the moment. But it is strange to see no mention of it at all, particularly when this appears to be the only reason why people are even reading at this article: have a look at its page views; it went from receiving tens of views a day to thousands after Kanye's tweets. Here are some articles from outlets which aren't completely awful, and are careful to note that these are allegations, etc.:

Would people object to noting something about this drama based on those two sources? Endwise (talk) 04:25, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Having got no response, I added something to the article. Endwise (talk) 05:36, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
