This company is still in existence in Brixworth, UK. It is now part of the Mercedes-Benz group. This article needs to be expanded to add the Mercedes history, including world championships and multiple race wins. Mario Illien has left the company (Mercedes-HPE) at the end of 2005 and has re-founded ILMOR Engineering Ltd. again in Brixworth.

Category

I'm going to change this to be in the 1981 establishments category, not 1991...presumably this was a typo on somebody's part. Mjj237 19:57, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I modified this article to correct the reference to the "265A" engine. It was used repetitively and inaccurately. Ilmor modified their 2.65 liter Indy engine several times and subsequent iterations were lettered "265B" and "265C". By 1993, the 265C was being used. I clarified the section titled "Racing in the USA" to note the usage of the 265C during the entire 1994 season badged as the "Ilmor Indy V8". This was meant to distinguish between Mercedes Benz involvement at the Indianapolis 500 ONLY during the '94 season, in the form of Ilmor's "500I" engine. Mercedes Benz livery did not appear on any Ilmor engines during the 1994 CART series. At the beginning of the 1995 season, all Ilmor engines used in the CART series had Mercedes Benz on the cam covers. I also modified the sentence referencing the death of Paul Morgan as being in one of his several vintage aircraft, a Hawker Sea Fury. The sentence previously inferred he was in his only plane. At the time of Morgan's passing, he owned at least 3 vintage aircraft, including a P-51 Mustang. (Specifically, the Sea Fury was named "Baby Gorilla" and information on this particular aircraft can be found here; http://www.warbirdregistry.org/furyregistry/fury-wh588.html ) AHIAPRP (talk) 06:35, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ownership

Is Ilmor wholly owned by Mercedes?? The article states Mercedes purchased 100%. Thanks --North wiki (talk) 08:42, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think the article needs tidied up to make this clearer. But in summary:
  • Mercedes bought shares during the McLaren-Mercedes days
  • They gradually increased this.
  • The core Ilmor company became what is now Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains
  • From intro "In 2005, Mario Illien concluded a deal to purchase the Special Projects part of the company in partnership with Roger Penske, which worked in partnership with Honda Performance Development for IndyCar engines between 2003–2011. This new company, which is independent of Mercedes, is once again known as Ilmor Engineering Ltd."
  • This detail is in the article, but needs to be clearer. And the way it starts in past tense is confusing. The structure also needs work (different table of contents levels). Mark83 (talk) 09:02, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. But I can still find [23] which points me to Ilmor Engineering U.S.A. and Ilmor Engineering U.K. Furthermore, after Mercedes purchased 100%, the U.K. side was still, to a certain extent, involved in Indycar V8 program.--North wiki (talk) 09:08, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
But that's explained above? The bulk of the company became Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains. Meanwhile Mario Illien and Roger Penske bought out the Special Projects part of the company which became Ilmor Engineering Ltd. History here. It was the post-Mercedes buyout companies that are involved in Indycar. I think you've got the names wrong which is why you're having trouble. The 2 "new" Ilmor companies are Ilmor Engineering Inc. and Ilmor Engineering Ltd., see here. Mark83 (talk) 09:40, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Correction, it reads like the US company has existed the whole time. [24] and it's Ilmor Engineering Ltd that's "new". Mark83 (talk) 09:42, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
