For this article I will be adding sections to further detail the issues and way of life of the Ecuadorian Ingenious groups. I will add a section on the issue with Texaco oil company and the impact it had on the Ecuadorian people and the rainforest. There is a resinating issue with the Texaco company and how they basically came to Ecuador and destroyed the environment by polluting their forest, rivers etc. Texaco created a 498 kilometer Trans-Andean Ecuadorian pipeline in order to establish a functioning petroleum system. There were many negations that took place before the construction of this structure. Pollution rapidly grew soon after they drilled into the Oriente. It can also be said that this was the beginning of the death of culture to the people of the rainforest. There is ongoing difficulties for the people who live in the forest because of the oil system there. Due to the fact that Ecuador lacked extensive knowledge on how petroleum extraction functioned corporations were easily able to take over and do as they felt fit for economic prosperity. They are quite a few tribes of indigenous people who reside in the rainforest of Ecuador, such including the Shiwiar, Secoyra and Siona people. One example of struggles they encountered was illness due to the pollution of their water resources. Invasion of their land was another issue they dealt with. The construction of roads and illegal declaration of their land as public lead to settlers migrating and residing amongst them. I will go further into detail on this discourse. 09-17-2014 - I deleted two lines that seem like Texaco PR work, detailing Texaco´s macro contributions to Ecuador´s growth economy. This is a really well organized article. Maybe you can add a little bit more information about the Civil War that resulted from the Spanish Conquest or add a link that explains it more in depth. Also, perhaps if more pictures are available, maybe add one or two of the indigenous peoples. Lastly, when describing the different archaeological periods, just an editing point would be that you could make each period bold so that they stand out. --Groovy304 (talk) 15:43, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am curious about the 7% of indigenous people . We Ecuadorians know that number is too low. Maybe it comes from Rafael Correa’s census, which gave everyone the chance to say how he or she would like to be identified. Given the prevalence of racism in the country, it is probable that a lot of native Ecuadorians identified themselves as mestizos or even white (an indigenous neighbor of mine chose to be registered as Afro Ecuadorian and the mostly indigenous grandmother of my wife chose white). Some analysts think this was a political strategy of Correa’s governement to weaken the indigenous opposition to his rule. He repeatedly said indigenous people are less than 10% of the population and want to impose on the rest. I remember a number closer to 30%, but don’t have the source. The section about the development of agriculture in th highlands erroneously attributes the domestication of lamas, alpacas, tarwi to Ecuador. These where domesticated in the central highlands, that is Perú and Bolivia. Javier Carrera (talk) 17:24, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There is a fairly large percentage difference in the ethnicity statistics on the main Wiki for a Ecuador and this article.

I also read thru the linked paper on citation https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-019-45723-w [4], and found their overall analysis to be rather problematic, citing quite extreme and unconfirmed ages, and with only two vague citations used for them. An extremely small sample set was used without consistency or clear explanations on why the previous statistics were inaccurate.
