Hi J Greb, the previously used image didn't fit Wikipedia's criteria for acceptable non-free content. The image in question was cover art belonging to a publishing company, and the relevant guidelines page says that cover art is acceptable "only in the context of critical commentary of that item (not for identification without critical commentary)." In this case, the cover art was being used without any commentary whatsoever. On the other hand, the image I added has been placed in the public domain by the author (along with other digital thumbnails of his privately owned work.) Thanks, hope that works for you.

And you're right, apologies for the bold revert.Babajobu (talk)

Coming at that from a slightly different perspective.
When discussing a book, identification of the book is generally done with the cover as published. In this case that would be File:1001 Nights of Snowfall Cover.jpg, which includes the title, cover copy, and trade dress. And that image is used to identify the book at 1001 Nights of Snowfall.
If the artwork, File:1001NoS.jpg, had included some or all of the publication elements, I would agree that it would not be suitable for use in showing an artists style. However, it is just the straight art, something that may or may not have had all rights assigned to the publisher. The art without the copy is valid for illustrating the artist's style and published works.
You do bring up a valid secondary point though. If the artist has released Mother9 (I'm assuming that is the piece's proper title), then it is a better image to use here. It would be best though to have a link to that release incorporated into the file page since just putting the work up on the net does not signify releasing it to public domain.
Lastly... just a helpful tip, but using ~~~~ when signing your posts automatically signs with a link to your user page, talk page, and the date.

Fair enough, I'll see if I can find a link to the release. And re: the tildes, yes. It's been several years since my heavily active days as an admin...the ol' wikisyntax has gotten rusty. Babajobu (talk) 20:29, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Article out-of-date

James Jean hasn't done any comic work or commercial illustrations in about four years. He's been a painter since sometime in 2007, and all the gallery shows that have received coverage in NY Times et cetera, showcase his paintings, not his older comic or commercial work. During his time as a painter that his notability has increased exponentially. The article doesn't really reflect this. If anyone is familiar with his work and watchlisting this page, the page would benefit from a reworking. Babajobu (talk) 05:13, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I added citation for where he attended school, and changed the image to one more illustrative of his work as a painter, for which he is now best known (as per above). The article still doesn't reflect the last four years of his career, will add that when I can. If anyone wants to discuss how to present the new information, please do so, would appreciate some input. Babajobu (talk) 07:27, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Changed description from "artist and illustrator" to visual artist; hasn't been an illustrator in years, and "visual artist" encompasses both his past and present works. Babajobu (talk) 08:59, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Went ahead and updated article with new material and links, added "notable works" heading and modified "career" section. Again, interested in input, so please do engage here on talkpage. Babajobu (talk) 19:56, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Chrissie Zullo

Agree that Jean's influence on Chrissie Zullo is notable in context of Zullo's article, but not Jean's. His influence on her has never been mentioned in any media coverage of Jean himself. Babajobu (talk) 18:13, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

BIRTHPLACE

The early life section says he was born in Taiwan, but the info below that image says he was born in Los Angeles. You know, it confuses people. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.51.62.155 (talk) 13:48, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
