I'll be reviewing this. Sanfranciscogiants17 (talk) 13:49, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

  • Put (ATP) after first mention in lead of Association of Tennis Professionals
  • Link football in the lead—I figure it’s the soccer variety, but some American readers might get confused.
  • Link Italian Riviera in the lead.
  • The last sentence doesn’t need a comma after backhand.

Early life and background

  • Add comma after first regular coach
  • Link football on first mention
  • First sentence of second paragraph is a bit of a run-on and confusing. How about “At age thirteen, Sinner decided to give up skiing and football in favor of tennis. He preferred it over skiing because he preferred to compete directly against an opponent and to have more margin of error over the course of an entire match, and he preferred it over football because he wanted an individual sport where he could make his own decisions.”
    • Changed to: "At age thirteen, Sinner decided to give up skiing and football in favor of tennis. He preferred it over skiing because he wanted to compete directly against an opponent and to have more margin of error over the course of an entire match. He also wanted to be in an individual sport where he could make all of the decisions, an opportunity he would not have in a team sport like football." Sportsfan77777 (talk) 06:45, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Junior career

2018–19: Three Challenger titles, Next Gen champion, top 100

2020: French Open quarterfinal, maiden ATP title, top 40

2021: Second ATP title, Masters final

  • Could you add cites? I’m guessing this info has been added since you nominated the article.
    • Yes, you are right. I had not written this part. I re-wrote and cited the entire section. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 09:27, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Playing style

  • Could you say who specifically compared him to Federer? WP editors seem pretty picky about this point. (If it’s too many to mention anybody, could say “compared by people such as…”)
    • The links present it as a general point not attributed to anyone specific. For instance, one source says: "Although Sinner is only 19, he has already been likened to Swiss superstar Roger Federer because of his fluid style, athletic all-court movement and inner calm on the court." Sportsfan77777 (talk) 07:22, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Link “groundstroke” on 1st mention
  • For the last sentence, specify who compared Sinner to Djokovic.
    • This is meant to be an objective point (i.e. Djokovic and Sinner both have backgrounds in both skiing and tennis.) Sportsfan77777 (talk) 07:22, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Take out “As such” – little bit unclear.

Coaches

Personal life

  • ”the Cesvi humanitarian organization” – since its linked, probably can just say “Cesvi”
    • I specified it because the key point is that he donated to a humanitarian organization, not so much which one. And I wouldn't really expect anyone to have heard of it. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 06:57, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • ”In parallel” – not a great transition because the concepts aren’t necessarily parallel (other than being positive and negative). The last sentence doesn’t seem related to the first two—I think it would make more sense if you took “In parallel” out and made that sentence its own paragraph.
    • Removed this sentence, as someone else added it. I don't think it's reflective of any general opinion. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 06:57, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Career statistics

References

  • Ref 5 is just the news page for the website.
  • Some refs say ATP Tour; others use ATP World Tour. Either is fine, but try to make them all the same.
  • Ref 40 needs to be formatted (probably was added after you worked on this).

Some stuff to work on, but other than what's been mentioned above, article seems to satisfy all the GA criteria! Let me know when these issues are addressed, and I'll give it another look. Sanfranciscogiants17 (talk) 20:49, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sportsfan77777 Looks good, passing. Great job! Sanfranciscogiants17 (talk) 01:44, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

German pronunciation

The German pronunciation of his name might be [ˈjanɪk ˈzɪnɐ] in the north of Germany, but definitely not in the region where he is from (South Tyrol) and not how he himself pronounces his name. The "S" should not be voiced, and the "i" is much closer to the Italian pronunciation [i] than being [ɪ], especially in "Sinner". The IPA transcription here seems to have just been copied from the Italian WP without critical attitude and detailed knowledge. 2001:4BB8:191:E97B:7449:2F9F:953B:E239 (talk) 13:20, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect sponsors

  • What I think should be changed:

The list of Jannik’s sponsors needs to be changed. REMOVE: Parmigiano Reggiano, Technogym and Alfa Romeo

Full list of correct sponsors are: Nike Head Rolex Gucci Intesa Sanpaolo Lavazza Fastweb Pigna Panini

  • Why it should be changed: they are incorrect and Jannik hasn’t been affiliated to a number of them for a number of years
  • References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button): StarWing Sports website, I am part of Jannik’s management team who works with his sponsors

Please can you inform me how I can provide what you need in order to get this approved? As mentioned I work for StarWing Sports management agency as part of Jannik Sinner’s management team. We represent him exclusively and handle all of his business in relation to sponsors. As we handle everything, we know exactly who his current sponsors are, and when he parted ways with his older sponsors. We want to update his Wikipedia page so there is no false information such as his relationships with Alfa Romeo and Parmigiano Reggiano and Technogym. Please inform me how we can update this false information, happy to have a call to discuss this or anything you might need in order to get this approved.
Thanks so much Charlottepearce12345 (talk) 15:07, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Charlottepearce12345: It must be published in a reputable independent source like the newspaper, a book, a tennis magazine, espn, etc. We can't take someone's word for anything at Wikipedia. What we have right now is sourced. Wikipedia uses sourced info, not truth. I know for a fact a lot of info about musical bands that is wrong here. But what I know means nothing... we must see it in print somewhere. Sinner needs to give an interview to someone where he states his sponsors have changed. Good luck. Great thanks, please see all links below including independent articles + the official brand links.
Regarding sponsors that are no longer partners what do you suggest here as proof? As there would be no articles announcing the end of the partnership.
This is the most important thing for us to remove here.
Thanks for your help.

Hi, be great to get an update here if possible please, also have an additional new sponsor to add, will provide the news article below:

let me know if it’s best I set up a new ticket?
thanks so much, Charlottepearce12345 (talk) 11:06, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I doubled checked the many sources including those you gave. Some of your sources include sponsors you want removed. I checked 2024 press releases and per those sources Parmigiano Reggiano, Technogym, Alfa Romeo, and Formula One are still sponsors. We go by sources at Wikipedia, not word of mouth. You would need to tell those publications to write new articles with those sponsors removed. Or perhaps a printed retraction that we can source. You have to remember that Wikipedia is not a newspaper, it's an encyclopedia where. We "parrot" what is currently out in publication, and all those sponsors can be traced to 2023 or 2024 articles. I changed the wording of the section a bit to reflect that that things may not be up to the minute accurate. Fyunck(click) (talk) 20:37, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate your time on this, as of yesterday we also announced La Roche Posay as a sponsor, so could we add this one in? I will provide a news article regarding the partnership also: https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/la-roche-posay-announces-jannik-sinner-as-new-partner-in-cause-to-raise-awareness-on-photoprotection-302056354.html
Would it be possible to move Formula One up to where the other sponsors are listed as of 2024? As this was a new partnership we announced in December 2023, so it is a new partnership and we don’t want it to be confused with the ones below, which are no longer sponsors.
As for the others, Parmigiano Reggiano, Alfa Romeo, and Techno Gym, of course we could provide contractual dates, but that’s highly confidential so it’s a little bit frustrating that we are unable to remove as this is currently providing false advertisement to these brands. Is there perhaps anyone else we could speak to in relation to this as we are his management agency?
Thanks again for your time on this Charlottepearce12345 (talk) 21:06, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure who you could contact. Wikipedia administration. The thing is, we only write what is already in print and sourced. You would have to talk to all those press reports (many from this year) that contradicts what you are telling us. It's why we must provide the sources to the info we place here. We have multiple sources that say they are part of Sinner's advertising entourage. As I said, if you could contact a newspaper or Tennis magazine and give them a list of sponsors (and those that are defunct), then we would report that if they publish it. However if a sponsor gets dropped a month later, until they publish a new story, we won't change that either. We are not instantaneous like a ticker-tape or twitter. We do verifiable sources not truth here. Fyunck(click) (talk) 00:53, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok will do, thanks for your help - are you able to add La Roche Posay in as a sponsor in the meantime? I shared an article above, the official LRP page on insta also posted on their stories regarding the news Charlottepearce12345 (talk) 10:17, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I could but remember something. We are not a pr firm nor a book writer for Jannik Sinner. We should not be listing all his sponsors, just some of his main sponsors. Really probably four or five main ones. This is an encyclopedia not a book so we usually handle the highlights of a player's career, not every trivial detail. And then the lead section is the highlights of the rest of the articles highlights. Fyunck(click) (talk) 10:37, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Jannik sinner visits

Hello all,

I'm not sure if including his visits/meeting up with Italy President Sergio Mattarella and Giorgia Meloni would be relevance to this article. I'm just curious if this should be mention somewhere as it happened recently in the last few days before editing it. There are articles in Italian and maybe English (did a brief search).

If yes that this is an appropriate edit, where should it go in the article? Soafy234 (talk) 08:53, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
