JEAN-MARIE BIGARD (May 17, 1954) is a French humorist, comedian, actor, director.

JEAN-MARIE BIGARD was born in Troyes (France). He's the fourth son of a modest family. His father was an delicatessen employee, after his medical condition led him to close his own shop; his mother was an automobile factory worker.

Between 1975 and 1983 he lived in Troyes and had numerous occupations (handball player, sports teacher, bar tender). He staged his own shows in bars (“La chorale des gros chanteurs à la gueule de bois” - The blind-drunk fat body - and “Les Choeurs de l’Armée du rouge” – The Red Wine Army Choir).

In 1984, he moved to Paris and had his first show “Pièces detaches” (Spare Parts) at the Point Virgule theatre (with Frédéric Darie and Brigitte Chardin”. In 1986 he appeared on the TV program La Classe (The Class) on a public TV channel, FR3, for which he wrote and played more than 200 sketches, mainly with Laurent Baffie and others with Frank Godard. In parallel, he wrote some sketches for Les Nuls (The Dummies / Prats ???) (during the most successful period of the group in the TV program Nulle Part Ailleurs (Nowhere Else) on Canal +, a private and pay TV channel).

In 1988 he staged his first one-man show at the Point Virgule theatre: “Vous avez dit Bigard” (You said Bigard?), directed by Frank Godard. It ran over 300 performances. He adopted a stand-up style, not playing the sketches but talking directly to the audience during the whole show. He praised Robert Lamoureux's heritage. In 1990 he was on stage for 4 months at the Splendid theater in Paris and was on a tour in 150 French cities for his second one-man show “Oh Ben oui!” (“oh, well, yep!”) In 1993 he was at the Palais des Glaces theater for his third one man show (100.000 spectators). He performed in 200 cities in France, Belgium and Switzerland for the tour.

He also appeared in films, both acting and directing and tried some singing with bawdy songs (“Massey Fergusson", a parody of Brigitte Bardot and Serge Gainsourg's “Harley Davidson”. He is famous for numerous sketches, for exemple "The butthair ???? on my bar of soap", an evocation of breakup. An album (“Plus jamais ça”, “Nevermore”) was released in 1993. His next one-man show in 1993, “Bigard Intégral” (Bigard Uncut) was sold out for 3 weeks; it finished in April 1994.

In 1995 his new show was launched, 100% Tout Neuf, (100% Brand-New). It began with the tour and was in Paris at the Théatre du Gymnase for 4 months. The tour resumed the year after. Between 1996 and 1998 he ran several roles in movies : Alexandre Jardin’s Oui, Claude Zidi’s Arlette, Roger Planchon’s Lautrec, Fabio Conversi’s Le Clone. In 1999 he directed his first film: L’âme soeur (Soulmate). The same year he ran a tour for “Bigard met le paquet” (Bigard Gives All he’s Got) and 90 performances at the Bataclan theater in 2000.

He released a single “La, la, la” and published his first book : “Mais pour qui j’me prends” (Who do I think I am?). He appeared in Claude Zidi’s film, La boite (Discotheque). In 2001 he resumed his show in Paris and his tour. He ended the year with a performance at the Point Virgule theater and another at Bercy.

In 2002 he appeared in Claude Lelouch’s film : And now, … Ladies and Gentlemen! His 7th one-man show Des Animux et des hommes (Of Animals and Men) started in 2002 and lasted until 2004, alternatively on tour in France and in Paris, at the Zenith. In 2003 he appeared in Patrick Volson’s film for TF1 (a private TV channel number 1 in France) and in Laurent Baffie’s “les clefs de bagnole” (The keys of the car).

In April 2004 he performed his Big Test at the stade de france, with 22.000 spectators and on June 18, 2004 he was back with Bigard at the Stade de France with 55.000 spectators.

In 2006, for 6 months he played the leading role in Molière’s Bourgeois Gentilhomme at the Paris Theater (directed by Alain Sachs). He was in “Hé, m’sieur” (Hep, Sir!), a TV film for TF1. In September 2006 his 8th one-man show “Mon psy va mieux” (My Shrink is Better Now) started at the Comedie de Paris theater; it ran until december 2007 on tour in France, Belgium and Switzerland and back in Paris. In 2007 he gave his voice for the animated movie : “New delire : l’Histoire d’un indien dans le showbiz” (New raving: the Story of an Indian in show business) by Eric Le Roch.

In 2008 he appeared in José Pinheiro’s “Un Vrai papa Noel”, a tv film for tf1.

He was back on stage in 2008 with Marcel Aymé’s Clérambart (directed by Nicolas Briançon). It was closed for lacking spectators after the controversial chat he had on Europe 1 about the 9/11 attacks.

On September 9, 2008, invited in Laurent Ruquier’s radio program on Europe 1, he gave his opinion about the 9/11 conspiracy. He claimed that “both planes involved for the 9/11 attacks were still in service” and that the Pentagon was hit by a rocket and not by a plane. It resulted in a big controversy and he was condemned in all the French media. After a few days he apologized: “I apologize to everybody for the words I said last Friday in Laurent Ruquier’s program on Europe 1. I won’t talk about the 9/11 events anymore. I won’t express my doubts anymore. I was called a revisionist, and that’s what I’m not.”

On 2009 June, 10 Bigard was back on the web and announced what he will be up to on his website: every week, on Fridays, he explains a “troubling” detail in the official version of the 9/11 attacks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Skopiton (talk • contribs) 16:44, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
