It seems very plausible, as suggested by Ed Pope [1], that Mr Willis who took Joyce on as apprentice in 1777 was the glazier John Willis. He is well known as the founder of the building firm Sykes & Sons.[2] This is of interest since John Willis took on his own son as apprentice in 1778. This reference [3], from 1796, shows the glazier John Willis, and John Willis junior, at Essex Street, which is a side street leading off the Strand. I don't think there need be serious doubt about the identification. Charles Matthews (talk) 12:36, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
