Adcock's birth date
Bill James's "The Baseball Book 1990" has a 4+ page article on Adcock.
He says, "It may bother you a little that Adcock's reported date of birth is October 30, 1927, but he went to LSU in the fall of '44 ... ; it makes one suspect a 'baseball age'." Hazelmaye (talk) 13:23, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
Adcock's nickname
I have a clear personal memory of sportswriters in Shreveport, some 30 miles from Coushatta, referring to Adcock as "Joe Bill," rather than "Billy Joe." This would have been in the mid 50's.
But maybe that was his downhome call name, rather than a sports nickname. Hazelmaye (talk) 13:28, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
