I grew up in Kearney and if you are considering moving to this community then you need to be prepared for your children to learn all about who is "cool" and who is not. The school district focuses on those children who are into sports and doesnt worry about those who are academically focused or challenged. I consider my education in their schools as sub par because I wasnt the best student or the best athlete. I was left to fall through the cracks but luckily my professors in college really took the time to work with me because my grade school, middle school and highschool teachers just didnt care. I wasnt a bad kid but just didnt know how to study and no one ever taught me those skills that I needed to succeed. Do not put your kids into this school if you can move somewhere else please do. Plus the school district is always asking for more money on bond issues. They do not know how to budget their money or live within their means. There is practically a bond issue every year from them asking for more money.

That's fine and dandy, but what does it have to do with the article itself? The talk page is generally reserved for discussion about the article, not the subject of the article. It's no problem, though.

Don't forget to sign your comments with four tilde's (~), please. I agree with ryodox. This has nothing to do with the nature of the article. Wikipedia article discussions aren't for griping about the quality of the school district of a town. Xadnder

Town name

I've been writing quite a bit about the

Hannibal & St. Joseph Railroad, the Hannibal Bridge and Kersey Coates. I appreciate the link to your source for the name. The first president of Hannibal & St. Joseph was Charles E. Kearney. Since the town owes its existence to the Hannibal & St. Joseph, it would seem logical the town was named for him rather than some place in Nebraska (which involved a spelling name change itself). The wording in the source is sort of loose on this. Americasroof 16:38, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply

Clean Up

I think this article could be cleaned up quite a bit. Jesse James is an important part of the town's culture, but maybe so much information about him doesn't belong in the intro portion. Likewise with the athletic achievements. Go them. As a bulldog, I applaud them, but maybe we could create a section at the bottom of the page that is simply for academic and athletic achievements. Maybe we can make mention in this section the River Bandits that are a Professional, minor-league baseball team. Xadnder 08:31, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I just went ahead and did some searching to find out how to do infoboxes and I also rearranged stuff a bit. I think it looks better now. I put the competition stuff under the title "Athletics" but I'm not really happy with that title. In addition, if the section should be there at all, I don't think that the marching band achievement is valuable enough to keep. Is Missouri Days a state-wide event? Is 3rd place such a big deal that you might see a road sign that says "Kearney-Home to the 2005 Missouri Days 3rd place winners- the Marching Bulldogs"? I don't really think so. I was in that band, but I don't think that it has a place in this article. If there is an article for the high school, perhaps all of these things can go there. Also, I use wikipedia a lot, but this is my first attempt at editing anything other than grammar, so please feel free to expand on what I did. I think we can really use an area for economy, we do have quite a bit of industry in our town. Enough to mention, anyway. Xadnder 08:31, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

River Bandits

Does anyone have empirical information about the River Bandits? Are they still in Kearney? When did they start playing at the high school? This, I think, is more important information than only recent high school athletic achievements since the Bandits were a AAA professional baseball farm team for the Red Sox. Kearney High School Graduates

I've removed this section from the article as it doesn't really pertain to the town history in terms of encyclopedic value. Likely strong points of pride for people in the city at the present, but not enough merit to be placed in an encyclopedic article about the city.

"Graduates of Kearney High School that have made headlines include Tommy Saunders-NFL Free agent(2004), Brock ChristopherNFL Player(2005)"

Chronological Error?

I noticed that this article has some information about the 2000 and the 2010 census. Most Wikipedia articles have information in chronological order. Should this apply to the census information as well? It would be nice if someone would look into this. Thanks! --RTao (talk) 21:37, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
