Rumours of Death on Digital Spy forums

There are rumours on the Digital Spy forums that Kevin died in his sleep on December 29th. These rumours have not been confirmed so I have not edited on to his page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chriskart (talkcontribs) 19:05, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, we have to be careful of
WP:V. One forum member on Digital Spy has said there is an embargo on the news until tomorrow. Until a third party source is found which can verify his passing is found, then we have to treat it as rumour and respect the two policies I stated earlier. If the news of his death is confirmed, don't forget to add {{Recent death}} to the top of the article. --tgheretford (talk) 20:04, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply

Year of birth

Is there any source for the year of birth? The year of birth in the intro line and the year of birth in the category don't match. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.159.254.193 (talk) 09:25, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've emailed someone who maintained a webpage about the guy to see if they can give a definitive answer - I could try the agent directly if I don't get a reply. The date of birth given in the article seems a bit weird because if he really did die on the night before his birthday, I'd have expected someone in the news reports to have mentioned it (especially with him dying so young.) This article states it was the eve of his birthday. http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23430157-details/Man+arrested+over+drugs+found+at+scene+of+Radio+1+DJ+Kevin+Greening%27s+death/article.do 87.194.212.107 (talk) 17:36, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Place of Birth

Have just added reference to his place of birth, which was apparently Kent. Also thanks to the user who formatted this for me, as I was having trouble getting it to work properly. Brett Leaford (talk) 17:36, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cause of death

The Sun have gone with "marathon kinky sex and drugs session" http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article643862.ece 07:49, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

BBC 'confirmed' this http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7433329.stm - also mentions his partner as 'Sean Griffin,' not 'Andy Lowe' as (currently) mentioned on the page Shab (talk) 12:00, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Openly Gay?

OK so it may seem obvious with the benefit of hindsight, but I never knew he was gay. Is there a source for this? Indeed this would seem to be contradicted by friend John Walker's blog The Botherer which states ". Kevin kept such details very private for a good reason - he found fame embarrassing, had no desire to have his private life in the limelight, and I cannot think of a positive reason why you would wish to have this information." 195.11.97.25 (talk) 13:09, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I don't know the date or context of the above blog entries, but can I suggest more recent and older sources to demonstrate he was openly gay. My example sources are:
31 Dec 2007 The Telegraph and 3 Jan 2008 The Guardian, there are references to his discussing his sexuality live on the radio, before his death, in these articles.
30 Jan 1998 Peter Tatchell's article for Campaign [1] which states "Radio has out DJs, Kevin Greening and Paul Gambaccini."
1 Dec 1996 the Sunday Mirror with the headline "Heart-throb Radio One DJ reveals he is gay" and the only quote I can find from it on-line is "Top Radio One DJ Kevin Greening has shocked his female fans by confessing he is gay."
1995 May, the Gay Times 200th Issue ran a feature on Britain's 200 Top Gay Men and Lesbians and, in the Radio subheading on page 28, Colin Richardson stated "At Pride '94, Radio 1 did have an off-air roadshow fronted by DJs Lynn Parsons and Kevin Greening, an out gay man. Their reports were fed into the station's output throughout the day."

Thanks for that, Ashley - that's very useful - I suppose once someone is 'outed' they are openly gay :) 195.11.97.25 (talk) 08:53, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I can find no evidence that he was ever "outed". If you know of any please add the source so that it can be covered in his Bio details. It was his choice to be publicly out when he co-hosted the Radio 1 roadshow at the 1994 Gay Pride event and I can't find any press coverage of his gay status before that.--Ashley VH (talk) 12:53, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
