Pictures of the original

Are there any images of the original Lateran Palace that Sixtus V tore down?

Built when?

The first paragraph, "Pre-Papal History," mentions only the basilica, not the palace itself -- but nowhere is there a statement of when the original palace (or the basilica) was first constructed, only when it was given over to the papacy. Anybody know? --Michael K SmithTalk 18:34, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This article needs attention from a copy editor; the author wrote almost the entire article in the passive voice. Help, please! Foreignshore (talk) 16:26, 28 September 2012 (UTC) Foreignshore[reply]

What country is the palace in?

From what I understand, the Palace is on Italian soil, but owned by the Vatican and having diplomatic status (similar to an embassy). Is that correct? If so, the information should be in the lede, because otherwise readers might infer that the Palace is in Vatican City. Mathew5000 (talk) 22:59, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's an extraterritorial piece of the Vatican. Not sure what status that has in international law. Laurel Lodged (talk) 23:16, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I think you may be incorrect in that. As I understand it, the palace is extraterritorial property of the Vatican, not a “piece” of the Vatican. But I haven't found a reliable third-party source that explains it clearly. Mathew5000 (talk) 06:42, 26 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"The Domus was eventually given to the Bishop of Rome by Constantine"

Wasn't this disproven centuries ago when the Donation of Constantine was proven to be a forgery? Or is there additional evidence? If so, it's lacking. פֿינצטערניש (Fintsternish), she/her (talk) 21:14, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The information is credible because it has been cited using reliable sources.

The "additional evidence" would be that the papacy was in occupation from around this time. Just because the Donation of Constantine is a forgery doesn't mean that C never gave the papacy anything. Johnbod (talk) 14:24, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
