William McGonagle

far be it from me to lessen captain mcgonagle's accomplishment, but it wasn't part of the vietnam war, which is the subject of this list. i would suggest that he doesn't belong here.he does have his own article.Toyokuni3 (talk) 18:52, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Citations

are we now including entire moh citations on this page? they all (?) have the citations on their individual pages.Toyokuni3 (talk) 04:23, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Angelo Liteky

Since Capt. Chaplain Liteky renounced his MoH in 1986, shouldn't there be a note of that by his name? For that matter, has the Department of Defense (and the Veterans' Administration, I suppose) recognized that renunciation? Just curious. —MicahBrwn (talk) 07:21, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No they have not, several have tried to renownce ot, some gave it back and still others stated publicly that they didn't want or deserve it the DOD or the VA has ever recognized a renunciation.--

Army specialist rank

The listing of several Army MOH recipients in the enlisted pay grades of E-4 and E5 are listed as "specialist fourth class" and "specialist fifth class" resepectively. This is a common error, and I'm not sure where it stems from. Possibly from the usage of Navy petty officer grades (i.e. petty officer third class..) Anyway, this is the incorrect usage for these Army enlisted ranks. The proper listing would be "specialist four" vice "specialist fourth class" and "specialist five" vice "specialist fifth class" As a former Army enlisted it always dismays me to see a person's rank that they worked so hard to achieve mangled in such a manner.

Unfortunately, I do not possess the editing skills necessary to correct this article and must ask someone indulgence in the matter. It is a small favor to ask, but one that will help correct the entries of several of our MOH recipients in this article.

Unknown

I added a short neutral notation of the disposition of the medal awarded to the unknown soldier from the Vietnam war, together with a footnote linking to a DoD statement.

Awards and Decorations System

The national archives has an online database of "Records of Awards and Decorations of Honor During the Vietnam War, created 5/1969 - 3/1973, documenting the period 12/1965 - 11/1972". This is apparently not comprehensive, but has interesting information on awards other than the Medal of Honor. It also lists things like "Lawrence R. Adams" was recommended for a Medal of Honor, but awarded the Navy Cross. Here is the link: http://aad.archives.gov/aad/series-description.jsp?s=3976

Request

Hi, I've been working through Category:Articles that include images for deletion as of November 2010, and this list is currently a member. I attempted to remove the deleted files, however I'm struggling to do that without messing up the table - I am admittedly rubbish with them, and especially don't want to mess this one up as it is a FL. Could someone familiar with the article/table please remove the files? Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 08:47, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lavender background

It has been pointed out by a visually-impaired reader that the current use of blue text on a lavender background in the table (for posthumous awards) is difficult if not impossible for them to read (OTRS #2014092910025261, for those with access). This format would appear to contravene Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Accessibility#Color, as (according to Snook's Contrast Check) it does not meet even the WCAG 2.0's AA level. Is there any good reason for using lavender over, say, light grey as a highlight for posthumous awards? If not, I would strongly recommend changing the table to conform with our accessibilty guidelines. Yunshui  09:10, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Having noticed that earlier versions of the article used the pale grey #e3d9ff, I've replaced the lavender with this shade (which does comply with the accessibilty requirements). Yunshui  08:08, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
