Taxonomic changes

Should probably be put in parentheses until the US and Arizona authorities accept the changes made. Yes, the splits are probably valid ... but let's err on the side of caution. This isn't a personal lifelist! -- Miwa * talk * contribs ^_^ 08:42, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Have updated as per AOU decisions. Whoopee! Also, list is now current (cross-checked with http://www.azfo.org/ArizonaBirdCommittee/abc_review_list.html). Cheers! -- Miwa * talk * contribs ^_^ 00:57, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Correction

Larus "marinus" is not the name of one of the entries, the glaucous-winged gull. It should be Larus glaucescens. db-user db-user (talk) 18:42, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Mmslouis: Thanks for the note. I fixed it. In the future, be bold and make the change yourself and explain why you made the change in the edit summary. Welcome to Wikipedia and I hope you continue to contribute. If you have any questions, let me know and I'll do my best. SchreiberBike | ⌨  00:31, 25 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Three former entries on state list.

Yellow Rail, Nuttall's Woodpecker, San Blas Jay former entries on Arizona list.

In the interest of being comprehensive, I have retrieved from Phillips et al ('Birds of Arizona') references to three species which were once on the state list but have now been removed. Any further names of such former entries would be helpful.

1 Nuttall's Woodpecker, 'Dryobates nuttallii' Maricopa Co., see p. 75

2 San Blas Jay, 'Cyanocorax sanblasianus nelsoni' Pima Co., see pp. 105--106

3 Yellow Rail, 'Coturnicops noveboracensis' Pinal Co., see p. 31 db-user db-user (talk) 20:49, 26 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

List total is still 570 because of the addition of the Blue-black Grassquit (Volatinia jacarina) and the removal of the Cordilleran Flycatcher (Empidonax occidentalis) as it has been subsumed with the Western Flycatcher (Empidonax difficilis).
Swallow-tailed Kite (Elanoides forficatus) has been confirmed with proper documentation in Santa Cruz Co. https://ebird.org/checklist/S146651990 This does not mandate any changes to either the state or Wikipedia lists. db-user db-user (talk) 01:51, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
