FL

I do not know why the FL has been closed, because there are on-going unresolved issues. Anyway, I have done some tidy-up work, to fix some issues. I would be grateful if the FLC discussion was re-opened, so that I can as least complete my comments on the on-going discussions. Snowman (talk) 19:16, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I scanned over your notes - As far as bird names, we can take it to the wikiprojects list (I thought we changed over to IOC anyway), I noted your comment about jargon, are you still worried there is too much, and if so which words do you think we can change or address without losing meaning. Finally the taxonomic sequence is an order determined by Christidis and Boles based on relationships (I guess like taking a 'slice' through a giant cladogram) Casliber (talk · contribs) 20:38, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I had mentioned "Shrike-thrushs are all Shrikethrushs" under IOC nomenclature. I would like to have completed the discussion on the overuse of emboldened text, but I have gone ahead and made fixes according to MoS guidelines. I was working on image websites finding more images, and I came back to the FLC discussion to find that it was closed with unfinished discussion including unfinished discussion on MoS issues. Snowman (talk) 20:46, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I am happy if you unembold all the acronyms. I concede we should do it across the lists but have been busy. I have changed all the shrikethrushes over and noted it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Birds/IOC names. I notice we never got finished so maybe some time to continue with that as I know Aussie species there. Casliber (talk · contribs) 21:09, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I rushed through some MoS fixes after the FLC was closed, and I guess that they would have taken longer to sort out through resolution by consensus and discussion in the FLC. Snowman (talk) 22:20, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Many changes are pretty simple. Just list any outstanding here. Casliber (talk · contribs) 23:24, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I made over 290 separate changes to the list to reduce embolden text, correct white space, add in commas, and fix italics. I wrote several regexes to do this with AWB in a small number of edits and I feel that saying that this was "pretty simple" does not properly summarise these few AWB edits. Snowman (talk) 08:57, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • What about an image for the lead? Snowman (talk) 20:51, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I hadn't considered it. Did you have something in mind? You are welcome to try some out. Casliber (talk · contribs) 21:09, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps a map would be helpful? Ucucha 21:09, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I was also thinking about a map? I had been thinking about a bird image, but I could not think of one species to select above the others. Also, I wonder if an infobox would help; however, I think that there is not an off-the-shelf infobox for bird lists. Snowman (talk) 21:30, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking either a map, but one detailing national parks on it, or otherwise some sort of picturesque landscape photo with birds in it maybe. We can keep an eye out for some good ones. Casliber (talk · contribs) 23:24, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
How many national parks are there? Perhaps something simple showing Tasmania, the Bass Straight, the location of the Australian mainland, and the smaller islands. Could add on some of the big towns and cities. Snowman (talk) 13:05, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Rose-crowned Fruit Dove" is IOC name. Snowman (talk) 21:05, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
okay, good catch. time to fix. Casliber (talk · contribs) 21:09, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Plumed Whistling Duck" is IOC name. Snowman (talk) 21:10, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Got that one too. Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:05, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • There are quite a lot of species names in the list that are redirects. - what should be done about these? Snowman (talk) 21:55, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Depends on the name. I am haivng a look at the IOC list as we discuss. Casliber (talk · contribs) 23:28, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Got both of those. Casliber (talk · contribs) 23:28, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Comment in the huge volume of text, I apologise for overlooking the outstanding comments. I've re-opened the FLC in order for Snowmanradio to continue to comment there. Once again, sorry for missing these issues. Cheers. The Rambling Man (talk) 10:56, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sanderling seems to be missing from this list

I'm not sure if one should call it a vagrant or not, but I've definitely seen one in the last few days, and there are other semi-regular sightings of individuals. JJ Harrison (talk) 02:56, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Wandering Whistling Duck should also be added as a vagrant (I've got photos of some to upload at some point!). JJ Harrison (talk) 02:58, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply

I'll admit, I don't know the specifics of these lists, but I'm curious as to why the

What is the source for this list

This list doesn't seem particularly accurate. Is it based on a particular list, or is it some kind of amalgamation, or just random? There are a number of vagrants missing, and even relatively common birds missing (for example the most common Storm Petrel off Tasmania - the Grey-backed Storm Petrel.) Some of the birds listed as vagrants are also not vagrants, and actually seen regularly every year. I'd like to update the list, but in a systematic manner, not just what I can see is missing or incorrect off the top of my head. --Owheelj (talk) 01:25, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Also I note that many birds that only a small number of the Tas endemic sub-species are flagged as such - something else that needs updating.--Owheelj (talk) 01:27, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Species marked as vulnerable

With these edits a bunch of species were marked as vulnerable. What's the source for those? It doesn't match with the species articles where I checked. Thanks, SchreiberBike | ⌨  00:24, 8 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Brain fart! Never mind. I see "(V)" = vagrant. Sorry. SchreiberBike | ⌨  00:27, 8 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
