This article was the subject of an educational assignment in Spring 2015. Further details were available on the "Education Program:Louisiana State University/GEOL 4131: Basin Studies (Spring 2015)" page, which is now unavailable on the wiki.

If the Transverse Range is the boundary of the L.A. Basin, then shouldn't the San Gabriel and San Fernando Valleys be included? Then shouldn't the Puente Hills be irrelevant? Shouldn't the WHOLE of the City of Los Angeles be within the L.A. Basin? Here in the Antelope Valley, when we say "Basin" it always means everything beyond Newhall Pass. On this page, I will be going into further detail about the geology of the basin. This means including more detailed sections about the tectonics of the region and stratographic facies present.I will also be moving all of the information that pertains to the petroleum into a more concise section.Athrower04 (talk) 00:08, 9 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

These technical edits and additions to the geologic aspects of the page will add beneficial scientific history about the formation of the basin. Some suggestions on a few questions that the planned edits could address include: 1. What type of geologic basin is this classified as? 2. What processes lead to the major presence of iodine in the basin? 3. What has been the recent documented earthquake history and what are the contributing factors and processes at the major faults listed? 4.
