Nickname

Many sources refer to this player as Junior/Baby Malinga.[1][2][3][4] So this could be added in the infobox 'nickname' parameter. @Blue Square Thing, you had reverted my edit earlier, what is your opinion?

Generally, I will agree to add nickname of him as per given references i.e Baby Malinga beacuse this name is supported by two relaible and independent sources. Fade258 (talk) 14:27, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The infobox documentation says: The player's common nickname. This must be frequently used by reliable sources in reference to the subject per
MOS:BIO
says that "a sports journalist's one-off reference to a player [using a name] does not constitute a nickname, and treating it as one is original research".
So, we're looking for nicknames that are in really wide usage - such that anyone even close to the sport who would have recognised the player simply by Beefy, Punter or Creepy. In my view that's not what any of those sources suggest. The recentism of them worries me very much as well, and although they aren't a single one-off use to me they, right now, fall under the same sort of category. Maybe if in a year or two the same comments are being made, I might consider it reasonable. Until then, no, I don't think it's valid at all.
You should probably be aware that the nickname parameter is used really, really badly in general - and overused far too much. For what it's worth, I would argue very strongly indeed for its removal from the infobox parameters entirely, it's used that badly and causes so many issues with original research and obvious cruft.
