naturalmedicine.com

Some of the content in this article is source to a piece in "naturalmedicine.com", a website touting "complementary" medicine and suchlike.

Callen was a practitioner of efficacious medicine and editors therefore shouldn't have to resort to such sources.

To its credit, the piece in naturalmedicine.com does cite two sources. Neither link actually works, but web.archive.org might help. And of course other, better sources might do the job. Time permitting, I'll pursue this; but time will be limited and perhaps somebody else would like to have a go. -- Hoary (talk) 10:49, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What was previously sourced to that article is now sourced elsewhere. -- Hoary (talk) 12:39, 5 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

a bigger question mark

I've read the Life story and I've also read -- in a reputable book, published by a university press -- about the Life story. So I know that Callen existed and was remarkable.

But the article has been fiddled with by a series of inexperienced editors. I picked one more or less at random and looked at their other "contributions". This silliness is one of them. Another "corrected" (not!) a statement that Cullen was one of 13 sisters (which is exactly what the cited source says) to a statement that she had 13 sisters. Somebody (maybe one of them, maybe a third) removed the square brackets around editorial interpolations within quotation marks (maybe because he or she was unfamiliar with this convention).

Better to regard the entire article as suspect, and check everything. (Again, this is not to denigrate Callen's achievements, which easily merit a "B" grade article and for which a Featured Article wouldn't go amiss.) -- Hoary (talk) 11:16, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
