General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems

Hook eligibility:

QPQ: None required.

Overall: @Wracking: Great work on the article and welcome to DYK! Seems to check out, long enough, reasonably sourced, and since you have 0 DYK credits you are thus exempt to follow up with QPQ until 5 nominations in. My one concern is that the current hook is not hook-y enough, while her accomplishment is very interesting, what I would potentially find more interesting is her creation of the pop andino genre. This is something that we could potentially workshop together but I would love to hear your feedback on the idea. Ornithoptera (talk) 06:24, 27 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Ornithoptera: Thanks so much! I really appreciate your help. I thought the "silver seagull" as an award was pretty funny, but that's a good point! Anyway, here's some loosely associated thoughts that could make a DYK about Milena Warthon and pop andino:
As mentioned in the article (but not expanded on as much as it could be) her career started when she covered, then re-covered, "Tú y Yo" by Peruvian pop musician Gian Marco, the second time with Andean folk musicians. She's cited this as the impetus for her pop andino project.
She also has given her merch store/clothing line the same name (pop andino); like her music, it features popular styles combined with traditional Andean-style fabric. That detail's not included in the article (yet?). Also in the same realm of this, the song "Warmisitay" refers to traditional Andean dress (pollerita andina). (Sorry for being so long-winded!) Anyway, I've created another version:
ALT1: ... that 22-year-old singer Milena Warthon has created a new genre, pop andino, by fusing pop and Andean music?

  • @Wracking: You don't need to apologize at all for being long-winded! Your passion is very welcome here and I can see the vision. Please don't apologize at all! Now that you've explained the rationale for the original hook, I can see the vision for what you meant. Thus I feel comfortable in promoting both ALT0 and ALT1.
