i want to know how to explain to people about miming —The preceding

While Mime & Pantomime have the same root, I do not see any problem in keeping them separate. I am trying to judge it from the point of view of what most people might expect when they use WP. See my comments on Talk:Pantomime (theatre) about how I would like to make these pages more logical. I understand the idea that some people don't want to use 'Pantomime' as 'Pantomime (theatre)' because it is too British orientated, but in my experience most Americans don't use or know the word Pantomime, whereas all English speakers seem to have a similar concept of mime. Where does this business in the trivia section of mimes being sworn enemies of blackface minstrals come from? In my years of being a mime artist, I have never heard this from either my mentors or from my peers. In fact, it's not even a pop-culture myth as with the clown/mime rivalry-- in part because the blackface minstral tradition has been largely dead for generations. IanThal

The addition of a paragraph about

Do we really need a list of every time a mime character or character who dressed in a stereotypical mime fashion appears in the popular media? Do we really need this section or can we at least pare it down to more than a list of trivial facts?IanThal 03:59, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The opening statement seems a bit circular to me: it says a mime artists is basically a performer who uses mime in his art. It does not adequately explain what mime actually is. Way back in May 2007, two unexplained edits in a row [1] [2] brought this article's length down from 26 kilobytes to 9 kilobytes. It seems like lots of useful information was lost at that point and never restored. Anybody feel like taking a closer look and maybe restoring or integrating the lost contents? You are trying to use hatnotes to explain a distinction that is meant for the body of the article. Hatnotes are only used for clerical purposes. Hatnotes are for articles that have the same title. A reader will not be brought to this article if they type in pantomime. Please read

I forgot to mention that panto (with the appropriate link) is mentioned in the second paragraph of the lede. It points out the distinction between the two. I have fixed this error by removing that bad link. This topic has little or nothing to do with pantomime as developed in Britain, which is a farcical form of musical theatre; the two artforms evolved very separately over the past 300 to 400 years. I just read this article, and it's awful. The Greek section is barely relevant, as is the whole section on non-western traditions. And, on the other hand, it has only a perfunctory discussion of mime as developed in Europe by artists like Jean-Gaspard Deburau and performed worldwide today. I see that in May 2007, two edits in a row [3] [4] deleted most of the discussion of mime from the article.
