Hi Kristal, I am not sure if this is where I am suppose to be commenting on your article. I am finding this all confusing but here goes: I read it. You need the cites of course but you probably know that. Good thorough background info on all of the different invasive species I didn't see much discussion of the policy itself, the stake holders or an evaluation. Good start though! I wrote a long comment on this article, but it wasn't saved. I'll try to write again it using the same words (next time I'll copy it before saving the page).

This article is not complete. You forgot to update it with the second part.

As concern the first part of your article:

1- references are missing: in the "introduction" section "It was created to reauthorize and amend a previous measure, the Non-indigenous Aquatic Nuisance Prevention and Control Act of 1990 (NANPCA) , and one of the prime focuses was to prevent invasive species from entering the Great Lakes through ballast water." needs a reference; "The Federal departments and agencies involved with carrying out NISA were the U.S. Department of the Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service; U.S. Department of Transportation, Coast Guard (the Coast Guard moved to the Department of Homeland Security in 2002); U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; U.S. Department of Defense, Army Corps of Engineers; and the U.S. Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration." this part needs a reference and also links for the agencies; also in the "env. problems" and "causes" sections references are needed (for example these 2 sentences need references: "In the proper conditions, nonindigenous species can out-compete indigenous species by dominating resources or spreading diseases or parasites." "These disruptions can lead to a loss of biodiversity and as a result, ecosystems and economies are greatly affected.")

2- also links are missing: in the "introduction" section NANPCA, ANS, and the agencies need links, but also zebra mussels, eurasian ruffe, and all the areas affected by the policy.

3- in the "env. problems" section the sub-sections are not just descriptions of non-indigenous species, but they are the history and effects in the area affected by the policy of those species.

4- the "causes" section can be better organized: it's better to list the sub-subsections with bulletpoints.

This article should be eligible for appearing on the main page as a "Did you know" entry, if it is nominated it soon; it is supposed to be nominated within 5 days of being created or significantly (5x) expanded.

The instructions for nominating it are at Template talk:Did you know. Basically, all you need to do is take this code if you created a new article:

or this code if you expanded it

and write the hook, a concise and interesting bit of info from the article beginning with "... that" and ending with a question mark. The info from the hook has to be present in the article and supported (in the article) with a citation. Someone will double-check to make sure the source says what it's claimed to say.

Once you've come up with a hook, fill in your username as the author and fill the title of the article, then add the above code, including your hook following the "hook=" part, to the top of the appropriate section for the day the article was started on the DYK template talk page. The code will produce an entry formatted like the others. After that, just keep an eye on the entry; if anyone brings up an issue with it, try to address it. I'll keep an eye out as well. If everything goes well, it will appear on the Main Page for several hours a few days from now.
