Is Obolon a historical district?

Looking through the history of the page, I noticed that Obolon as a historical district was added at a later time than the original text that I modified yesterday. However, neither the original, nor my updated article, talks about the historical aspect of Obolon. I've never heard of Obolon as a historical district, as far as I know, it's just a district. Whoever added the "historical" label: could you write a section about why/how it is historical? Or, we should remove it from the article. -- mno July 6, 2005 18:56 (UTC)

Found some info about the history of Obolon here: [1] it's in Ukrainian. Maybe I'll go over it later and pull out some stuff and put it in here. Anyone else wanna take this task? -- mno July 6, 2005 19:47 (UTC)

Thanks for the article! Announcement is added to Wikipedia:Wikiportal/Ukraine. We should modify the end of an article to change the guide-book style, I think. -Irpen July 6, 2005 20:01 (UTC)

;) I had some fun writing it and researching it. I lived in the
Obolon Raion because a lot of my family lived there. And yes, the guidebook feel should be changed. I will be adding a lot more historical information from the Ukrainian site I linked to above. I will rewrite the ending, but I want to keep the idea that the Obolon district is popular as a place to relax on the river beaches. -- mno

I'm just pasting the old "touristy" ending here in case we ever want to go back to it. (Yeah, I know, it's in the history also...):
Many citizens (from the district and from other areas of Kiev) enjoy strolls along the Dnieper river as well as the lakes of Obolon. Notably, Lake Opechen, also Verbne (Опечень, also Вербне), has recently been declared as the cleanest lake in Kiev. This, as well as the beaches along the Dnieper attracted people as popular relaxation places, where one can enjoy the feeling of being out of the city. For nature lovers, there are two major attractions in Obolon: a
nudist
beach along the river.

yachting club and nudist beach

yachting club is there for a long time, maybe for at least 15 years, so 'recently' is inappropriate i think. About nudist beach - i simply don't know anything about it :( :)

Thanks for noting this. I'll fix it in the text. (I didn't add this section, it was at some point by another user.) -- mno July 8, 2005 13:33 (UTC)
See here. -- mno July 8, 2005 13:36 (UTC)
Maybe there is a nudist beach in Obolon, I know there is a nudist beach in Kyiv, but I don't know where

I understand. To be honest, then, I don't really know what to do. On the one hand, I don't want to write something that isn't true, on the other hand, stuff written in the less-popular topics may be untrue or biased because only 1 or few people wrote it (like Obolon :)). In any case, writing there possibly is a nudist beach in Obolon is not something do to, I think ;) Maybe someone else can put in their word, because I never knew about a nudist beach either (of course, I haven't really been in Obolon enough to go to a (any) beach in Obolon, so I can't say). -- mno July 8, 2005 15:26 (UTC)
