"...employed as his ward"?

In the fourth paragraph under the heading "Biography" it states (regarding Anna Maria Falcucci) "He bought her from her dissolute family and employed as his ward." This is confusing and I suspect a faulty translation. A ward is a person who is either a minor, or if an adult, is in some way incapable of being responsible for their own well-being, for which an adult is granted custodianship. Saying that someone is "employed as (a) ward" is nonsensical. Can anyone make sense of this? Thanks. Bricology (talk) 20:44, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
