I am baffled why the article on Spener would have a link to heraldry. I did a search on the heraldry page for "spener" and there were no matches. Lynn 07:11, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article does state that heraldry was something he studied throughout his life, and the Ludwig Biewer article in the Bibliography, perhaps added in response to your comment, seems relevant. Johann Jakob Schütz was a significant hymnwriter, perhaps best known for "Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above". That hymn was used by Bach in Sei Lob und Ehr dem höchsten Gut, BWV 117. According to the article on Schütz at http://www.hymnary.org/person/Schutz_JJ , Spener and Schütz were intimate friends. That article cites: John Julian, Dictionary of Hymnology (1907).
